Mod note from previous thread: Please post in here with regards to the subject at hand. Any general chat can go in the WR OT thread.

Just to be clear, going forward, these type of posts also count of derailing:
1. Talking about how the thread is derailed/ how mods should handle a situation (report and continue on topic discussions)
2. Joking about posters who are reply banned from the thread
3. Posts with only flaming that do not have any other information about the topic
4. A reply to any of the above

Stop doing these. This isn't some game of getting each other reply bans and infractions. Just stay on topic, report when needed. We have the WR OT for posts like the ones above but they have no place in a normal thread.

Creating a new thread because the old one is huge, and there's a new round of indictments.

New Big Updates:
  • Russian spy arrested. According to the indictment, she was using the NRA as a backchannel to communicate with certain GOP officials
  • 12 members of the GRU - the russian foreign intelligence service - were indicted in connection with the 2016 DNC hacks. The indictment is juicy. Read it yourself.
  • Strozk and Rosenstein hearings occurred. They were a mess.
  • Senate Intelligence Committee released findings that Russia deliberately interfered in the election and did so to help Trump.

Major events so far:
  • Manafort, Trump's campaign manager and transition committee member has been indicted arising from misconduct reaching into 2017 related to payments received through 2014 from the pro-russia faction of Ukraine's pre-war government. He has pleaded not guilty. The indictment has since been expanded by 13 claims. Manafort's bond has been revoked because of witness tampering. His countersuit has been dismissed, as has his claim that Mueller's appointment violated Article II.
  • Gates has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and conspiring (with Manafort) to commiting tax fraud, failing to register as a foreign agent, and lying to the FBI
  • George Papadopolous pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators in 2017 about activities occuring 2016-17. Admits to meeting with various Russian officials regarding setting up meetings and "dirt" on Hillary while acting on behalf of the Trump campaign, something he previously denied.
  • Mike Flynn, Trump's National Security Advisor, has also pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI with respect to several meetings that he had with the Russian ambassador. Flynn was allegedly involved in other business involving Turkey, but has not yet been charged with respect to that behavior.
  • 13 Russian indictment for activity starting in 2014 and continuing through 2017. A US citizen pleaded guilty for agreeing to help them.
  • An attorney linked to Manafort, Gates, and a Russian oligarch has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI
  • Yohai, Manafort's former son-in-law has agreed to cooperate with the Justice Department
  • Daniels's lawsuit has somehow, insanely, gotten linked up to the Mueller investigation thanks to alleged wrongdoing and influence-peddling by Michael Cohen
  • Twelve Russian intelligence officers have been indicted for conspiracy against the United States and aggravated identity theft. The indictment should be mandatory reading.
Dumb Talking Points:
"Nothing will come of this."
Several things have already come of this.

this is it
?????

But Trump has been hard on the russians!
Not really. And, even if this were true, that is irrelevant to events predating his inauguration.

They were just shitposting/trolling lol
Wrong. Read the indictment.

The FBI is wasting money on this, but dropping the ball on other things?
The office of special counsel is not part of the FBI, though they are working with the FBI. The FBI has literally thousands of employees and lots of different offices and departments.

Entrapment
Entrapment is only a defense to being charged with the crimes you were "entrapped" into committing. It is not a defense against being charged with other crimes.

Everybody is corrupt reeeeeee
This is just a bad argument.

I keep thinking this over and over. Is Trump's job to totally trash the American economy?
Consider:
Tax cuts and deficit spending during an economic boom - low unemployment, high stock market, etc;
Starting a trade war with its closest trading partners during the above mentioned boom, hurting primarily American citizens in the process;
Investing in and promoting obsolescent energy technologies, i.e. coal;
Enabling/empowering enemy states, e.g. Russia, ending the fucking Iran agreement, thus having nothing rather than something, N. Korea - gave away concessions and got nothing;

To go on would head into more speculative territory, but to me, you put that all together and you get a coordinated plan to fuck the US in the ass with its own cock.

Nope, he is just his this dumb, never admits to being wrong, and never backs down from implementing a bad idea.

That's actually just standard Republican stuff, with a little extra tariff vigor.

Re-establishing my prediction: inner circle indictments. Some key cronies will be accused of serious/ treasonous in law and or spirit/ federal crimes.
Donny Moscow is forever tainted by the scandal -it will be inevitable that his administration is remembered for chaos- but will skate. Chances of impeachment proceedings 30%.

He also seems to really want to put a wedge between America and it's allies. Lets not forget trashing the fbi, attacking the press, and alienating a large percentage of the US citizenship. It's almost like he is purposely trying to bring the country down. Hmmm I wonder who would benefit from this?

His job is to destroy our international relationships. Weaken our status as leader of the free world and create gaps where Russia can start to influence world events in their favor. Something that would not have happened under HRC.

Whether or not Trump is doing his job with intent or if he's just too stupid to realize the long term effects of his choices or if he's being manipulated by Putin into making bad choices that he thinks are good...well, that's anyone's guess. I'm going with a combination of all 3.

Based on the new indictments and so forth, he's being fed information that tells him that certain actions will keep his base happy and he's acting on that without any deeper thought.

Fantastic title.

Thread update, 2 years of investigation, Trump still president.

@Quipling I think this should be included in the OPs from now on.

What does the duration of an investigation matter? If more and more are being charged/put away?

Got another dumb talking point to add.

Regarding the title... indicting Russian secret agents has zero to do with Trump. You don’t need a special counsel for that. Any DA could have done that. It’s a farce because he’s for nothing. 12 agents you will never see or hear from again but makes for a good headline. Even Flynn’s indictment. He actually did not commit any crime. Just a scared dumbass who lied to the FBI.

How can you even call it “hacking” when Podesta’s password was literally “password”. That’s not hacking lol. He brought Hillary down with his dumb ass
