Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

— The American Constitution

Since it’s a of that amendment, we’re getting our freedom back. And that’s what America is supposed to be: a nation of free individual people.

Countries like Europe don’t have this concept but this is why we don’t have universal healthcare. To do so is take away the right of me to be an individual. It’s why America has the most rights and the best economy.

yes

everyone should be allowed to be unsafe, and open yourself up to financial ruin. murica

Freedom is a two edged sword. While it offers endless choice it also comes with a commensurate cost.

Absolutely. Everyone should be allowed to make their own choices and face the bad consequences or reap the good rewards. Freedom is scary but Americans are a brave people.

It's a tax and it's been determined that taxation is not slavery.

The involuntary mandate is a tax, which is how the Supreme Court ruled. Obama campaigned that it wasn't a tax, repeatedly denied it. In the end the libs had to call it a tax or have it thrown out as unconstitutional - and they got Roberts to buy in.

No more so than the requirement that everyone participate in social security.

This is wrong. I would rather invest my own money. I have a background as a financial engineer. I would make much more money. I hate socialism!

I didn't have healthcare from 20-27 because I was self employed and strong like bull. It was a calculated risk and saved me tens of thousands.

Literally Hitler!!

I mean literally George Washington the Slave Owner!!

So because you guys are the only western nation unable to come up with a working healthcare system.

The working ones are now kind of slavery?

So this is the basic argument of libertarians vs authoritarians in their many forms. We tend to argue that the person should be allowed to do whatever suits them best in regards to health, finances, guns, speech, drugs, or whatever. Just don't expect anyone to come to your aid if you make poor choices. Authoritarians believe that people should be protected from themselves and be forced to color inside the lines. Personally, I have no taste for being controlled by the government, so I would much rather have autonomy to self-select my own path.

Is it just slavery or is it like genocide?

More people I talk to tend to lean toward a libertarian style of thinking when they are told that libertarians tend to be socially liberal and financially conservative.
Basically "stay out of my bedroom, out of my body, out of my property rights; and stop wasting taxpayer money" seems like a reasonable standpoint.

Also mandating that somebody, everybody needs a service gives business free reign to jack up prices slowly or all at once, because EVERYBODY needs to use the service period.

The best healthcare system is if you work and have the money for insurance go that route. If no insurance you pay out of pocket. If you cant afford to pay...well sucks for you and you deal with it or die. I hate the way people think everyone should have free this or that bullshit...pay your goddamned way or die that's how it should be.
