The Forgotten Rock Thread...

Holy shit... I just learned for the first time a few weeks ago that Bolin did one record with Deep Purple. And that he was also in James Gang after Joe Walsh's departure.

Bolin was an incredibly underappreciated, overlooked guitar talent. I'm sure dying at 25 had a lot to do with it.
Well him dying young and not having the right type of people around him to promote him. The only reason he joined The James Gang and Deep Purple was so his manager would let him do a solo album and he needed the money. Alot of songs from the two James Gang albums Bang and Miami was songs he did with his band Energy who failed to get signed. Even with Deep Purple he was still using some stuff from Energy on Come Taste the Band. The whole reason Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple was because he was the one doing the most work and yet everyone wanted an equal split yet Tommy comes in does damn the whole album and is paid less then everyone else. Being in Deep Purple was just a way to get his name out for when he released Teaser and in the end was probably the worse thing to happen to him.

Don't you think Come Taste The Band was a pretty damn good record though? It doesn't sound like Purple but it's got some cool tracks.

Did you ever hear Bolin with Zephyr?

Yeah it's a good album due to Tommy, Glenn, and David being able to do what they wanted to do. It just pissed off alot of diehard Deep Purple fans and former Deep Purple band members and Tommy got most that anger and hate. As for Zephyr yeah
