Of the 10 champions (not counting Jones or Aldo) 5 have never defended their belt.

Only two have defended it (successfully) more than twice.

Only two have held the belt since before last year.

GSP, Jon Jones, Ronda Rousey, Cain Velasquez, Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Conor Mcgregor, all the superstars have been beaten or otherwise taken out of the picture.

The only two multiple-defence champs now are champs in the youngest divisions, Mighty Mouse has had the belt since the division was opened and JJ took it from Esparza on her first defence, after she was awarded the inaugural belt. So it's probably just a case of the depth of the new divisions catching up to them and the same thing will happen there.
