The case against Conor McGregor's "greatness"

Getting knocked out by a much smaller older man in a circus fight is a higher mountain?

Money wise maybe

Fighting wise it's closer to drilling to the earths core than climbing a mountain
if you start from the bottom of the hole you just drilled, its pretty bad-ass....

exactly, he got in the ring and boxed with one of the greatest boxers to ever live... He agreed to fight Nate (a bigger opponent) on short notice, lost and then agreed to fight him again... He moved up a weightclass to fight Eddie, a fight no one thought he could win... Yup seems afraid to lose...
This is exactly what I can't stand from all the Conor nuthuggers on here. Of course it was a win/win situation for Conor fighting Floyd. If he wins, he can claim he beat the greatest boxer of all time. If he loses (which he did), he can just use the excuse that he lost to the GOAT and he isn't a professional boxer himself. And what really makes me laugh is that before the fight, ALLLLL the Conor fans had the nerve to say he would actually KO Floyd. But yet, after he lost, here came the excuses that he simply lost to the greatest boxer of all time, and it was some huge act of bravery for Conor to even step into the boxing ring against him. Funny how that happens.

Nobody will remember how well Bolt ran at some lesser championships throughout the year, they will remember his world records. McGregor will be remembered as one of the few fighters ever in the sport to break the mould, that knocked out two champions in two weight classes with ease. I think he will be quite happy with his legacy. The test of greatness in a fight sport is not always black and white. He had the most fans, the biggest ppvs, the biggest media presence, the biggest influence with the UFC management, two belts and a handful of dominant wins against high skilled and high profile fighters and will retire stinking rich and with physical and mental good health. Can't really argue that that is not great.

Forgot to mention being brutally beaten by a forty year old retired boxer with brittle hands among the achievement he will be remembered for.

Except Conor made it to the top and then climbed a higher mountain too

Except he didnt really climb a higher mountain, did he?
He was airlifted there, took some selfies and left. He didn't earn the Money shot, like those who actually climbed it

Didn't used to think he was the GOAT up until having Rita Ora sat on his lap last night.

Fair play to him.

You should poll all the UFC champs to see if they think its easier to defend the belt in their own weight class or to move up a weight class and fight the champ.

Conor natural weight class is lw...he killed himself to fw.

Nobody with average fighting skills defeats Jose Aldo, Chad Mendes, Max Holloway and Eddie Alvarez on the way to winning gold in two divisions.

Holloway 3 years ago...mendez on a 3 days notice. Love how everything is so generic...

Conor is a great celebrity with average fighting skills. He will always get more credit than his talent can afford. LOL

If MMA was tennis, he would be a slightly better Anna Kournikova.
Except Anna is hot.. Conor not so much..
<{ohyeah}>

Yeah, he only beat Brandao, Holloway, Poirer, Mendes, Eddie, Aldo and revenged his loss to Nate. What a scrub, right?

Conors personality is loathsome, generally acts like a loudmouth goon.

So he's going to polarizing, especially amongst the type of hardcore fans that would be posting on here.

But.. he is, objectively, a great fighter.

9-1 in the UFC, a legitimate run to the title at 145...plus that lopsided win over Eddie.

I think people who don't like him are always looking for evidence that he's a hype job or a fraud...and have been clinging to the Diaz fights as proof.

I'm talking about KO'ing the LW champion after he'd already won the interim and undisputed FW titles.

He climbed Rita Ora yesterday. That's something!

And that's fine. All the power to him. But don't win a couple games and then run away with the ball claiming you're the best ever. Prove that shit or shut up and f-off.

That’s fine, but he MAKES money by saying that and other similar things.

A boxer the size of Cody garbrandt

Who toyed with Conor laughing at his pathetic attempt to box until knocking him out
Floyd's first KO in a decade, unless you count the cheapshot against Ortiz in 2011 lol.

Talk to any legendary athlete and they all have one thing in common...they unanimously say that it was monumentally more challenging to stay at the top than it was to get there. The reason being that the motivation and drive towards that ultimate goal plays a profound part in a competitors success. It's why athletes who remain at the top of their sport for great lengths of time are held in such high regard.

Imagine Usain Bolt reaching the top and then picking and choosing his opponents. Or Roger Federer, or the 1990s Chicago Bulls or the 1980s Edmonton Oilers, etc.

Good athletes can reach the top. Great athletes defend their position at the top and remain there for a long time.

Conor McGregor is good...he's yet to prove he's anywhere near being considered great.

i take GREAT offense with you mentioning the oilers as the 80s hockey team.. the islanders owned half of that decade winning 4 straight cups and finally losing to the oilers in their 5 finals trip in a row!! haha im a huge islander fan sorry lol.

Conor could win the Nobel peace prize and he'd still just be a manlet.
