French police sniper shoots two in error at Hollande speech

A French police sniper has accidentally shot and injured two people during a speech by President Francois Hollande in western France.

The shot was fired as the officer moved position on a roof about 100m (328ft) from a tent where Mr Hollande was speaking in the town of Villognon.

Norwegian police have carried out a controlled explosion of a “bomb-like device” in central Oslo near a busy subway station and are holding a suspect in custody in an investigation led by security police. A 17 year old asylum seeker is suspected of trying to detonate the device.

Police in France have averted a 'certain terrorist attack' right before the election.

Mahiedine M. (29) and Clement B. (23) have been arrested under suspicion of targeting presidential candidates original election celebrations. Candidates Macron, Fillon and Le Pen had been warned about them. Searches turned up an ISIS flag, guns and materials for the production of bombs.

At around midnight between Thursday and Friday, police found a “suspicious car” near the Evreux 105 airbase, “which turned out to belong to a radicalised man”, a police source told AFP.

The vicinity was immediately searched, resulting in the arrest of the man, who has not been named, at about 5am on Friday morning near the military base.

According to the source, weapons were found in a nearby thicket, including “a shotgun, two black powder revolvers and bullets”.

A search of his home uncovered a Quran and a gun cartridge. Anti-terror agencies have been informed of the arrest, the source confirmed.

But yeah, it's probably not significant. It's just a thwarted terrorist attack. Just like how 400 Muslims celebrating a terrorist attack wasn't significant. :^)
 
What's the over/under on the FBI having in some way aided/encouraged the plots they "foil"? 75% sounds about right to me.
 
There actually is a backlog of four or five incidents from France and Germany I still need to enter from the past two weeks or so.
 
Obviously I never got around to updating this, but it has been a bit quieter in the past 10 months or so. Let's hope this is not the calm before the storm.

German police have arrested three IS supporters (2 Turks, main suspect from Macedonia) who were planning a terrorist attack in the Rhein-Main area (Frankfurt/Mannheim/Wiesbaden region) with guns or/and explosives. 170 police involved in the operation.

More info: suspects already had obtained chemicals for explosives and had tried to buy guns online.

Not known as dangerous persons/on watchlist so far.
