The 90s was Depressing

For me, that would predominantly be in the early-mid 2000's. I'm not nearly as big of a fan of the music/television/film of that era as I am of the previous decade. In a way, I feel like I missed out being too young to realize what was going on culturally in the 90's.

I felt like I was somewhat fortunate to be a 90s kid. Life, being a kid/or adult in the 1990s seemed so much simpler during that era with no smart phones and social media nonsense to deal with. Even the early 2000s, up until 07'-08' wasn't to bad either, culturally anyway. I know we had 9/11 and eventually the Iraq war, but it still felt sane.

The 2000s had better drama tv shows with sopranos, sex and the city, 24, West wing, the wire, etc.

Plus in the 2000s with movies you had the rise of high quality comic book movies(I know it's overkill now) but they were a legit original genre then, and unique.

The music beginning in the 2000s, with the exception of electronic dance music(not techno) was all trash.

The 2000s was the last golden age of porn too.

The 2000s had it's moment too, it wasn't all bad.

For some reason this post made me realize, that in the game of television thrones, GOT has seized the iron throne, and layed waste to all its foes. It is the juggernaut of its era.

Lost or breaking bad are the only modern shows in its weight class for pop culture impact. Walking Dead, the Wire, or Sopranos are light heavy weights in comparison.

This is the golden era for commercial-less entertainment though, and that is worth its weight in gold. All hail netflix and DVR's.

I havent seen a commercial since the superbowl.

Give mad men some credit when it comes to fashion aesthetics, the impact that show had on fashion was immense.

2004 iRobot and everyone in the future has fat 90s/2000’s era fat collars. 2005 stealth its the same deal. Mad men comes out in 07 and by 2010 in inception and 2011’s in time everyone has 60s era skinny collars.

Also, best thing in the world about being a 90's kid. I played outside, sports, bike, dominated my life, but I also had a playstation, and internet.

All of us 90's kids are a bridge between 2 world's and era's.

We are like 1920's kids. They saw the pre-great depression industrial revolution in full swing era, lived through the depression, then WWII, to the labor revolution building the American middle class.

For those of us who live til we are 80 years old and older, we will be guest speakers at elementary schools, giving eye witness account of history.

wrong! the 90s is colectively reffered to as 1 entity in OPS title, hence it was depressing.

If TS really wanted to express that thought AND whack in a “was” (not were) then he should of written “the decade that made up the 90s was depressing”.

The 90s were depressing however is closer to what he wrote so clearly the mistake is in the was.

I thank god that I was a late 80s-early 90s kid. Graduated high school in 94. I can't imagine the amount of damage I would have done to my brain and penis if I had a smart phone with unlimited data while I was in high school.

I can never hate on the 90's since I was a 90's child. The only real bad things I have to say about the era is that there were no DVD's, no Blu-Ray, no HD, no Netflix, the internet was brand new and pretty damn slow compared to what it is today (and no Youtube!), etc. Plus school sucked.

On the flip side, some of the very best movies and video games were released in the 90's. Pro wrestling was at an all time high with the Monday Night Wars. Boxing fans had people like Mike Tyson they could get excited for, whereas folks of this decade had... Floyd Mayweather. PC culture was a problem, but not quite as outrageous as it is today.

Lets think about this for a second. There been alot of 90s thread latey and everybody talking bout how great they was and I am class of 96. But let look at it.

Music was ran by sad depressing shit like Nervana?, the cranberries, in the early and bitter sweet simphoknee, sublime, and other in the mid late 90s.

the ecomeny was ok but race crimes like King,OJ, Riots and dragging a dude til his head off was still going on.

Noe the late 90s starting to wash all that away with bright colors and pop groups, it still had this sad meanlingless feel to like this was the best its ever gonna it like the Matrix said.

High School kids enjoy indulging in misery sometimes. The 90's was definitely great for that. If I could go back in time and have the privilege of being miserable again, I would gladly take it. I loved the 90's.

no doubt

It wasnt a Mistake.Thats how I talk.

Early 70's seemed depressing, 90's not so much. When grunge was around you still had New Jack Swing, Boys 2 Men, TLC, En Vogue, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff and all that.

The 90's were great...just so happened that a few depressed junkies dominated the music scene for a few years...

The most important thing about the 90s is that the Internet and technology had not yet taken over the world.

Just for that reason, I'd go back if I could.

No thanks, I've learned to do so many things because of the internet I don't want to go back. The days of having to find people who know how to do things instead of just googling and finding the dude online whose willing to make a video showing you how to do it.
