The 165 debate: "fighters that can't win a title at 155 & 170 are going to switch" How is this bad?

Loosely quoting Dana "All the fighters that can't win a title at 155 and 170 are going to try and win a title as 165".

Giving fighters an opportunity to become champs, make more money, create more PPV's, generate more money for the UFC. Where is the down side?

So there's less fighters at 170 and 155? Who cares, there will always be fighters to fill in slots. It's up to the UFC to build up interest.

It should be like this.

155
163(7-8lbs increase)
170
177
185
195
205
No weight limit[no 265 limit]

This is much better because 155-170 has the most talent thus we should have more classes around those weights so we can have more exciting champs...we should not get ris of 170lbs since it has too much history.

These extra weight classes will also headline over manlet divisions/WMMA which IMO are killing ppvs since UFC is obssessed with putting champs on mainevents even if they suck and arent as popular as non champions.....so no we will have more talented champs in more stack divisions since 155-170 are full of talent.

163 is a sweet spot for WW and LWs to meet up.

177 weight class will be great so WW and MW can meet eachother.

195 will be great for Franklinweight fighters...not enough talent around that weight to have 7lbs apart champions.

And we need to get rid of the weight limit for hw.

I feel this is the beat option for MMA.

Doesn't want a new belt... Adds main event for a new belt.

They should add a 165 division, scrap the mens 125 division and send wmma to Invicta..

Yea why is there no issue with 125 for the ladies? It's slap bang in the middle of 135 and 115. Does it hurt those divisions?

Dana always wants to do the opposite of whats good for the UFC, but the UFC continues to grow despite the bald asshole.

No 165 please

Conor makes a great point. He talks about actually talking to Dana instead of complaining. I think the biggest issue is that no one is even trying to to present a good argument. There doing this childish stupid social media campaign. If Dustin and Nate actually just sat down and talked to Dana, he may have actually said fuck it, lets do a 165 title main event.

I agree with the changes in weight classes but not about the numbers. The best way to do it would look like this.

135
145
155
165
175
185
205
265

The problem with that is the UFC would need to end the 170 pound division to make everything uniform and move it to 175. I think this is a big reason why it will never happen.

Well you are right, but back in the day it was Lorenzo that steered him in the right direction. Dana hated TUF, but got over ruled by Lorenzo and the rest is history. I wonder if we have Lorenzo to thank for Ronda too.

Dana doesn't have nearly as much power as people think he does.

If more divisions are happening there needs to be a rule that a champion must vacate to fight for another title. Weight classes being closer together could see mulitple champ champs clogging the title

The WME era UFC needs to carefully consider that having divisions in 155/65/75/85/95 would increase championship level main event fights by a minimum of 2 fights per year, maybe more, add in injuries, botched weight cuts and USADA, plus there is the opportunity for more interim belts... thus champ vs champ unification bouts which are much more marketable

IMO they fold 125
Merge WBW and WFW to 140

You’ve added two divisions and scrapped one (WFW) without legit contenders where your champ only fights once a year... not to bash the little guys, but... (125) is lacking interest enough to even headline a PPV event, add that a majority of the 125 roster has fought at 135.

Sorry I’m all over the place, my ADD meds haven’t kicked in yet and I’m quite nonsensical otherwise.

UFC has what ? 8 men's champions .This is plenty. They start adding divisions, the whole champ champ thing won't become that big of a deal...... for starters.

It already isn't.

Holding 2 belts at the same time is not any more impressive than vacating a belt and capturing another at a higher weight, unless guys are actively defending both in short order(and they aren't).

155 and 170 are historically the most talent-dense divisions in the company, and the addition of 1 weight class won't do anything to harm either, imo.

I'd add a 215 to that and add that fighters are not allowed to dehydrate themselves to make weight.

Forcing in a 165 division right now makes no sense.

If 165 helps fighter safety and weight cut issues, I'm all for it. I think it'd be great for people like Cowboy, but I can also see Darren Till convincing himself after an "easy" weight cut that he could make 165.

It's not an issue, 170Ib holder gets the straight swop for the 175Ib belt and new blood will come into the division from 185Ib, smaller 170Ib fighters will drop to 165 and the bigger 155Ib will move up.......

Valentina couldn't win the title at 135 and moved to a new can division.

Make 165 that will actually be a good division
