That was hard to watch - Big Nog

How many times will they let a guy get dropped in a single round before ref steps in and saves him from getting finally his lights turn off in a brutal fashion?

as many times as nog has comeback subs and frankie survives the round

Such a legend and warrior, but Big Nog needs to retire. Should worry about his long term health at this point...

beautiful

and to think Nog asked for Roy Nelson (be careful what you ask for)

little trivia fact: this is the 4th opponent that Nog and Mir have in common, the other three being Crocop, Sylvia, and Barnett.

Barnett is the only one Nog did better against than Mir.

Mir was beating Crocop (narrowly) before ko'ing him. Nog was getting destroyed before making a comeback submission.

Mir subbed Sylvia effortlessly. Nog got dropped multiple times before getting a submission.

Mir dominated Nelson for 3 rounds. Nog got dominated and ko'd in 1 round.

And of course, Mir and Nog also had two fights against each other in which Mir finished him both times (once by KO and once by Submission)

Frank Mir is vastly underrated (or either Nog is vastly overrated--either way)

Only if you have no concept of time.

totally expected it, but damn dat rigor mortis

but it doesn't really count. nog had staph, two broken arms, a concussion and a terrible fever going into the fight

Nog has a reputation of making excuses but he doesn't really make them.

An interviewer heard the rumor of staph and asked him if he had it before the Mir fight. He said yes.

Anyway, pick on Mir for making excuses because his jet lag (excuse for losing to Freeman) his "I forgot I could punch" excuse, and the "I had bronchitis" excuse....I would say trumps anything Nog ever said.

mirs been around since 2001 and was ufc champ around the time nog was pride champ

Mir has half the fights as Nog. He is younger than Nog. He has been on TRT since the age of 30 and he has lost 4 in a row.

If Mir has lost 4 in a row, has been TKO/KOed 7 times, imagine how bad he will be doing by the time he reaches his 46th fight

Nog won the belt in Pride in 2001 and lost it in 2003. Mir won his belt in 2004. 3 years is a long time apart in MMA

and has been active a fraction of the time. let alone active at a high level. Even with the TRT boost he cant compete at the highest level today.

I'm a big Nog fan, but in a weird way it didn't bother me that much...like when someone's 110 year old grandfather dies. You obviously knew it was coming, and you were so prepared for it that it wasn't as heartbreaking as it should be.

he was less active because he suffered a leg injury so severe doctors weren't sure he'd ever walk on that leg again.

The fact that he came back and won the ufc belt again speaks volumes. It's one of the biggest what if's in MMA that people never talk about: What if Frank had never gotten in that accident.

Because a post-accident frank still managed to have some of the biggest and best wins of his career.

yes, and Nog was in a life threatening accident before his career even starter. I wonder what his career would have been like if that didnt happen.

Mir likely would have followed the same path. Freeman laid out the blueprint in beating him and it followed him throughout his career unfortunately.

Frank's only top wins since his accident were Nog at the end of his career, The rest was him beating mid level fighters and getting completely dominated whenever he stepped up the competition.

What a joke.

You're trying to say Barnett is worse than those other fighters, by digging up a fight from eight years ago?

How can anyone be surprised that happened..?

I figured he could at least do what Mir did. Then again Mir didn't choose to box with Roy after getting rocked multiple times. Nog has too much faith in his own ability to employ strategy. Chose to go to the ground with the two other best submission specialists in the division when he was winning the standup. Chose to continue and stand and box with a guy who has done nothing but throw bombs his entire UFC career and who had just hurt him.

I was like that too. You'd have to be in total denial to not be prepared for an ending like that -- especially after watching him move around the first 30 seconds of the fight. It was pretty easy to see how that was going to play out.

It was the same way with Cro Cop for myself. After the first knock out to Gonazaga, things started to become comical when he was getting knocked out by these mediocre fighters.

You start to wonder how badly these guys need money, lack of intelligence or allowing their egos to get in the way of their long-term health. Once you start getting knocked out, it's over. Boxing managers know this, why are MMA people so slow to pick up on it?

Retire please...hes a threat to nobody right now...you cant expect to face Dave Herman every night.

Gj by Roy picking up an easy win after 2 straight losses. Give him Mark Hunt next.

I'm not even a nog fan but it's always hard to watch a legend of the sport get KO'd brutally like that
