That Khabib-McG Thread Where Nobody Argued..

I see it happening the same way, khabib cant say hes fought a striker of conors caliber.

But the question remains as much as khabib hasn't faced a top top striker and to me is relatively untested you could easily say the same thing for Connor and facing a wrestler like khabib..for sure he hasn't faced anyone close as there is no1. Close to. Khabib right now ..it's really a battle of unknowns it's going to come down to who adjust during the fight..simple as that ..adapt and survive and cardio

I'm excited for the fight. I honestly think either guy is capable of embarrassing the other for a spectacular win.

Maybe the reason Conor doesn’t want to do media is that he personally feels that doing all the media is the only reason he lost to Floyd. It’s not outrageous FOR HIM to think he could’ve squeezed a couple more rounds out of his cardio had he not done a worldwide press conference tour. The only other time he didn’t want to do media was also coming off of a loss.

Yes, McG hasn't faced such a good wrestler before but the fight starts with Advantage McGregor. And it's the biggest advantage he could have, given both men's skill-sets.

That's the reason I think he wins.

Once again lads, I have to applaud the sterling work everyone (bar a few illiterates..) has put into having a grown up conversation, among true MMA fans. I used to read this forum every day for over a decade but it became too much. Glad to see a few can keep it in their pants.

Remember, Smiles Makes Fights :)

Barboza is a top striker BUT I do agree Conor is quite different to Barboza and highly unusual. Barboza is a demon leg-kick specialist, and Conor is a left-hand punching specialist and he is very fast and very accurate with that.
So even though Khabib faced and fought Barboza, and smashed him convincingly, Conor is just different and significantly dangerous.
-- The 1st round is going to be very very very intense and if Conor is going to win i think he HAS to catch Khabib in Rd.1 or 2.

Fight result is determined by whatever happens in the first 2 rounds.

You're probably right with the 2 round prediction.

Speed and Fatigue will be the deciding factors in this fight and only one of these fighters gets praised for his speed while both are criticised for their gas tanks.

Khabib has enough scrambling ability to get dropped and survive and McGregor can take some ground and pound for 3-4 mins until they're back on their feet. Obviously if the submission is there, McGregor's fucked but would Khabib take that risk early in the fight?

It's going to be a great fight but I stand with my McGregor prediction.

TKO followed by cringe-worthy acceptance speech.

Good analysis TS.

I think Conor will win by 1st or second round TKO or Kahbib will take him by decision. I'm leaning towards Conor at this point, 60/40 ish.

these are far and away the 2 best in LW right now.

conor has had 1 fight at lightweight in the ufc. although he did also lose to the lightweight nate diaz, who was just as he normally is at lightweight, but didnt do a weightcut.

lets see him fight 4 or 5 guys at lightweight, see how he gets on then

Gas tank thing : hmm, I actually think Khabib's gas tank is very good. I don't recall him gassing out in any fight. To do what he does with his grappling and top-control and endless ground-and-pound, takes a LOT of energy but he seems ok with doing that for 4 or 5 rounds.
Conor, IMHO, absolutely does not have the cardio to go 4 or 5 rounds, without fading very significantly.

Submission thing : Whilst I am sure Khabib *could* go for a sub, I don't think he will. He likes to keep pounding away on the ground. He doesn't generally hit hard enough to knock out on the ground, BUT he demoralizes you and keeps popping away at your face and body until you mentally break. This is his speciality and I think that's the plan against Conor.

Khabib will have the mindset : (in best Dagestani accent) :
"I not give him sub, that too easy, I want smash him for long time, change his face, make him want run home to wife".

First off, I'm an MMA fan. I don't follow fighters blindly. I used to during my MMA Honeymoon period but I’ve seen a few ‘generations’ come and go now so learned my lesson more than once. (Todd Duffee or Houston Alexander anyone..?)

This upcoming LW Title fight is the definition of Styles Make Fights. The winner is going to make the loser look human but these are far and away the 2 best in LW right now.

Khabib can beat everyone else at LW and there are definitely lightweights who can beat McGregor but they are both each other’s kryptonite.

I’m not saying anything new here but feel like I have to point out that I’m not a blind fanboy for either. I enjoy seeing both men fight.

I’ve gone back and watch both fighters last few fights.

Unless Khabib has learned some new tricks, McGregor makes this easier than the Alvarez fight.

McGregor has a four inch reach advantage and is aiming for the head, Khabib has that reach disadvantage, noticeably is slower and aiming for a calf or ankle…

If you pay attention to the Pro Picks, only the people who are blindly loyal to wrestling are predicting Khabib. Anyone who has fought McGregor knows that his speed and footwork will catch Khabib very, VERY early. Hate even saying this because I sound like the worst kind of McGregor fan but it’s plain to see if you look at it without bias.

We went through the same thing during Anderson Silva’s reign. Everyone stood a chance until they witnessed it in person. Nate Diaz showed that you have to be able to give AND take it to beat McGregor. Relying on a single leg from the first bell is lunacy against someone with that level of touch-butt and striking.

Nothing would please me more than a 5 round tit-for-tat war, cementing both men as the legends they are but someone’s going to lose momentum (with the general MMA Fandom/Mob) after this fight.

At this point, I’m more interested in speculating why there has been such little promo…

Has McGregor or Khabib told brass they’re retiring after this fight so they’re trying to protect their other fighter?
Does MCG think he might lose so doesn’t want to give Khabib those extra PPV monies??
Is McG laying low to avoid increasing the negative backlash/court cases he got from the dolly incident?
Has McGregor finally fallen out with Ari?
Has he decided he doesn't need to promote?

Cast your votes on that instead because, bar injury, Khabib is getting TKO’d and I don’t see any valid argument to say otherwise.

I've weighed up similar options.

McGregor's 100% done for if it passes 2 rounds. I just don't think Khabib will survive the clean shots of those first 2 rounds, with his head movement, or lack there of.

Look at his recent fights, he's going to get clipped closing that distance and he has to close that distance at least once every round.

Now I REALLY sound like a McG Nuthugger.. ffs

Too risky and actually injured people that has resulted in him being sued, so no.

Far easier ways to get promo.
It doesnt have to be staged for it to be promo. The bus attack is actually worth as much in terms of marketing potential than if Conor did two press conferences. That's how powerful that footage is and that's why the UFC has used it in every single promo video so far and that's why Conor doesnt feel the need to promote the fight as much as he usually would.

Your confidence is convincing.

Well one thing I've learned with McG fights is often i'm surprised with the way it goes. So fair play to the man, he's achieved some great results. I really thought he'd lose to Aldo, but ....we saw what happened. Similarly, i thought he'd bitten off more than he could chew with Alvarez and... we saw what happened.

So....expect the unexpected I guess is the take-away. I hope the fight is not over in 30seconds (I simply want more of it!) and I hope it's not controversial with some weird early stoppage or some weird split decision. Clear victor is what we want, and an entertaining contest. And May the Best Man Win.

What kind of a fan are you? You would like it if Khabib miss weight and the fight doesn't happen just so you could see Conor destroy Khabib on social media? Get the fuck out of here you fucking looser. Go watch Kardashian on twitter. Why are you wasting time on Sherdog?
I'm actually tighter, not looser.

I've tried very hard to look at it with an open mind.

I don't think anyone can argue that whoever wins, it’s going to look very one-sided.

I think both fighters have holes in their games but the rule-set is in McGregor’s favour.

If it was Pride rules, Khabib wins every single time over that first 10 min round.

It’s not Pride rules though.

McG can take 4 mins of ground and pound for two chances to land flush on someone who has basically no striking skills.

Watch the Pro picks, Dan Hardy’s breakdown etc. The industry insiders know what’s up.

Well said!

100% agree

That's what is so beautiful about a fight like this. Whoever wins it's going to be incredible. Seeing Conor lose in a 5 round mauling would be an amazing sight so would seeing Khabib get knocked out. Either way a great memory that will forever live in the minds of the fans and the history books will be made and I think that's being overlooked because people are so obsessed about seeing their guy get the victory. This fight is ultimately a win-win for MMA.

Conor has to stop Khabib

Khabib can stop Conor or beat him by points

I dont see why so many people think Conor steamrolls Khabib. I know he’s gonna crack Khabib, but if Khabib eats them like Diaz then here we go again.

This was the same thing when he fought Mayweather, he HAD to KO him to win, the only way he was winning, and tons of fans believed he could do it too.

We haven't seen Khabib under duress so we don't know how he will react. He's had it pretty much his own way so far, looking good in the cardio department when he's on top doing the damage. But Lesnar looked like he had cardio for days gnping Herring, then he gassed out in 90 seconds verse Cain. Fights have a way of not going as expected.

..but if Khabib eats them like Diaz..

I agree, if he eats McGregors shots, we'll see McG's confidence evaporate instantly

...but Michael Johnson doesn't have a fraction the boxing accuracy or power of McGregor and he had Khabib doing the chicken dance.

Couple that with Khabib's Ronda Rousey-esque head movement and my prediction remains intact.

More than happy for everyone to flame me if i'm wrong but I think we're all falling for the old UFC smoke and mirror act.

Look how McGregor ducked Frankie.. a wrestler, who can box.

Why then did he ask for Khabib...
