Terrorist attack in Iran, not a single bleep from anyone.

It's pretty hard for people to keep up with every single thing that goes on in every single country. I think most of us focus on our own country, and still can't keep up with every story.

It doesn't help when your country makes it hard for foreign journalists to report from there.

There are bombs and attacks weekly in Afganistan, Pakistan, etc.

I don't see posts on sherdog for those, let alone flags on Facebook.

Must be sad to live in any 3rd world shithole ran by religious doctrine, rather than democracy manifest.

But people tend to think mass murder only happens because of white incels with easy access to guns. So their ignorance is kind of expected.

It kinda goes back to the point that people focus on their own country. In our country, most mass shootings seem to have followed certain patterns, or at least the bad ones. So that is the situation that is most often debated. Then of course politics pollute that discussion too.

One thing that I don't like, is when people reference other countries to accuse people of hypocrisy. For example, when a woman says she is disgusted by Trump's language regarding women, and somebody responds with, "Oh but you don't care about Muslims in Saudi Arabia!"

https://edition.cnn.com/2018/09/22/middleeast/iran-attack-parade-intl/index.html

29 people gunned down in a parade, no Iranian flags on facebook, no condolences from anyone, no nothing.

It must be pretty sad being a Shiite in this modern world, you get all the drawbacks of being muslim and none of the perks.

On one hand, Iran fomented its own share of Shia insurrection in Saudi Arabia following the revolution. On the other hand, they've scaled down these efforts in the past decades, and even if Saudi Arabia wasn't officially involved in this planning, it's hard to deny the ideological underpinning of such violence in the country's political and religious exports.

But lets not restrict the critique of Western hypocrisy and inhumanity towards the Middle East and Africa to just Iran: no matter where this had happened, there would be little in the way of sympathy. Hell, even if such events take place in Latin America, with whom the US shares a great deal of cultural similarity, there probably wouldn't be much care.

People in the US do follow the various terror attacks in Europe, but then kind of ignore the killings in Mexico and the rest of Latin America. Which as closer in proximity than Europe

It is being selective to an extent, but also a factor is the saturation. There is just so much violence in Latin america, middle east, Africa. So nothing really stands out.

Wikipedia is my start page, and they usually have a little headline on the right when there are bombings/attacks on the middle east, so I see them all the time and never see a thread even in the war room. Surprised I don't see them im the WR because of all the people I feel would jump at the opportunity to post something that makes Muslims look bad

I think that last part is can be relevant when those people talking about Trumps treatment of women, also then support Sharia law. Which does happen... tho not that often, despite memes of Truderp

Yeah saw this on CNN.com was wondering when a thread woukd be made. Pretty nuts, whoever did this

How many people even know there’s a war going on in Yemen?

I agree that there's certainly some European-focused bias, and there's also definitely over-saturation of violence in some of those other countries. I think it's also just a lot easier to politicize a situation that involves immigrants (Muslims in Europe can be politicized in a way that drug traffickers in Mexico cannot). I guess there's a lot that goes into it.

But my overall point is that just because somebody chooses to focus on their own country, it does not mean that they are hypocrites or do not care about other people. People tend to see their own country as a place that they can actually have an effect on. I think it's a cheap shot when people pretend that focusing on issues in your own country imply you do not care about other humans.

Damn, I hope all of our Iranian friends are OK.

I agree with all that, especially focusing on stuff that directly affects them, or have the potential to take some sort of action.

It doesn't help when your country makes it hard for foreign journalists to report from there.

This is also a pretty big factor to. And some places, the government doesn't have to make it hard, the populace makes it hard enough through potential violence, kidnapping, lack of infrastructure, etc.

Been on all major news since yesteday i got it in a notification, Islamic State claimed the attack.

Yet when something happens in Syria that can be pinned on Assad is broadcasted 24/7 on the newsmedia.

Lol wut? That is a war zone with several international players. Doesn't really compare. Especially when ISIS is all but defeated, and this is just one isolated incident.

Plus you are saying it has been on major media since yesterday. That seems like quite the bleep. As I said earlier, people on sherdog don't make threads for the majority of violent attacks in the world.

It all comes down to ratings, and I would also argue that a full blown war doesn't get much coverage compared to a dirty pornstar like Stormy Daniels, or bat shit crazy, washed up celebrities.

It is what it is.

I think most people do not identify with Iranians and i personally don't give a shit about them and guess what? They don't give a shit about Westerners either.
