Technical Analysis of Weidman's Knockout

Between this thread and the Jack Slack analysis, it's nice to see some actual professional analysis of what happened.

Thanks for this TS, good read.

Here's the other thread for reference:

Glad you liked it, and thanks for the other thread.
I'm gonna link to a second one I did today, because I think it really clears up what Silva was doing:

that was a great assessment, although I honestly believe Weidman wasn't really thinking all that during the fight, I think he just saw an opening and went for it as many others have, the difference is that he really committed to the attack instead of just throwing one punch and stepping away, and I give him much credit for that.

It's not necessarily that he was thinking it consciously, it's that he studied Anderson for a long time and tried to internalize during his training what he would do. It becomes reflex.

Great write-up, TS, thanks. Was very interesting.

i was really impressed by weidman's head movement and reaction time

i don't recall anderson landing any clean punches

anderson did have 4 or 5 great low kicks though

i'm certain if anderson used more leg kicks in the rematch he would have more success

Chris realized he needed to sharpen his defense for them and said so after the fight. Can't wait to see what happens next time.

Also good post TS. People seem to forget that Weidman winning PRECEDED (and PROMPTED) Silva "clowning" rather than the reverse. Serious Silva showed up in round 1 and that didn't work. Hence the appearance of clowning Silva as the backup plan.
