It varies widely, but the bait expense for lobster traps runs 20% or more of revenue for lobster fishermen.

I eat crab, crayfish and shrimp but never liked lobster. Something creepy about them. o_O
 
As a side venture, I raise oysters. I like them raw but most people don't; however, if you like fried clams you'll love fried oysters. I don't go out of my way for lobsters; I do like them. The number 1 port for North American lobsters in the world is about 30 miles from me. From that port and another, I have a couple of clients give me free lobsters a few times a year - often 10 or 12 two pounders.
 
Generally, lobster fishermen are fantastic people, hard-working capitalists.
