SUMO - 2017 Nagoya Basho (July 9th - July 23rd)

day 7:

fantastic win for harumafuji with a beautiful desperation throw against his nemesis.

day 8:

great job by ura. i didn't expect him to look this good in the top division in general, but he's been really impressive and especially at this high rank.

day 10:

ura vs. takayasu showed once again how amazing and entertaining ura is.

OH NO not the streak!

Two more wins though...can we call him GOAT then?

day 12:

some great matches on day 12. chiyonokuni vs. kotoyuki and yoshikaze vs. tochinoshin were both epic.

and hakuho looked pissed after losing on day 11.

Uff been missing out on the discussion. Urrra. His bout against takayasu tho

Hakuho breaking records, aoiyama (sp?)in the race?!

wow, great final match by the two yokozuna. although it was pretty much over when hakuho got his lethal left hand outside grip, harumafuji did well to defend and it was pretty tense.

great job by aoiyama as well to keep the yusho up for grabs until the final match. great tournament for him.

not such a great debut for takayasu but it's not unusual to have a poor record in an ozeki debut tournament. the other two ozeki though, will both be kadoban next tournament so that could lead to another high-profile demotion.

ura has also been fantastic. i thought he would really struggle to find success in the top division but although he picked up a losing record, he was very high in the ranks and for such a young guy this kind of experience will help him improve a lot.
