How much do you weigh?
I've always been a bit puzzled by hand speed guys like Ward/loma are fairly slow, in terms of being elite boxers, on the bag and on mitts but in a fight are every bit as fast or faster than their opponents. The there's guys who are speed demons on the mitts and it doesn't translate to anything outside of it.
6"4 170
Do you mean Andre Ward and Lomanchenko? They're more about timing than speed which typically creates the illusion of speed. But Ward and Loma aren't fast in the tradtional sense ... at least in the sense of this discussion. So they're more likely to look fast when using their superior sense of timing on a living opponent than they would on an inanimate bag. (granted I haven't watched Loma fight in ages)
Good speed is about fast movement, good timing is about knowing that your fist is going to be at such and such a point when such and such a thing happens. I think of it as two men racing through a maze, one man can only walk but he knows the correct route, where as the other man can run but he doesn't know the way. There's really no guarantee on who will get out first. I think it stems into the different mindsets of fighters who like to study/plan and fighters who like to just go with it. People who are naturally more athletically gifted tend to be impatinet when it comes to teaching. They tend to want to use their athletic edge as the advantage and often over look timing ... because generally, through most of their careers they don't need it until they do.
