STIPE GOAT - right guy, wrong time

Losing because you fought someone too early vs too late is the same thing

Losing to a middleweight would be looked at as inexcusable in this day and age. Nobody would ever give Stipe the time of day if he lost to Yoel Romero or Bobby Whittaker, both of which would kick the shit out of Hendo.

It's an example of how the standards were lower back then. If you bring up the Struve loss but try to explain away the Hendo loss... I mean come on. It shouldn't even have to be argued against
Lets see how Stipe is doing in 2026 when his career is 16 years in before judging his predecessors failures later in their careers.
Spoiler: He'll be retired and would get his ass beat by middleweights

Overeem has always been the same when getting punched. So no. Reem would have been knocked out at any stage. And no one considers Stipe the GOAT yet. Funny you mention past prime fighters. Pretty sure Jon Jones' legacy apart from cheating and drugs is past prime fighters.

They weren't "past their prime" until Jon demolished them..

That's because he's faced obviously bigger and better competition far more consistently. Fedor was fighting NOBODYS in his so called epic run. There are no fights off for Stipe.

And how about the fact that stipe has destroyed people that beat Fedor? No attention given to that? And Werdum was even better when Stipe fought him. But these things don't matter to some people.

That's a misleading statement on several levels.

1) Cain wasn't the biggest win of Werdum's career. Fedor was.

2) The post-Cain JDS that Overeem beat isn't nearly the killer he was before.

3) The Cain that Werdum beat has been severely compromised as well.... which is why he never fights... because he's wrecked himself training like an idiot.
Wtf.... no way was Werdum better when he fought Fedor vs when he fought Cain.

Werdum was so clearly better and had a much better performance against Cain than he did against Fedor. He destroyed Cain methodically and put big damage on him in the opening minutes. Fedor dropped Werdum and jumped into his guard. They aren't even comparable fights.

Hunt lost to a middleweight (Manhoef has made 170 a few times IIRC) and nobody cares
Hunt also isn't a GOAT candidate lol legendary and his resume is stacked, both the wins and losses. But the only reason I bring it up in reference to Fedor is because he's looked at as the GOAT and yet people try to argue him being superior to Stipe because of his loss to Struve

Holy triggered batman

I said his BIGGEST WIN was Fedor. And it was.

Keep pretending that Cain wasn't just coming off a 2 year layoff when he fought Werdum.

Listen man, we've been down this road. Stipe's having a nice run atm, and I like the guy, but he has 6 wins in his entire career that can be considered elite. Six.
JDS had a 9 fight win streak that was literally nothing but ranked fighters and he isn't the GOAT.

Chill out and wait for his career to unfold before giving him accomplishments he hasn't earned yet.

Context does matter and tbh Fedor should have beaten Werdum. He had all the tools and Werdum wasn't quite ready but Fedor made critical errors. Cain just got his ass whooped.

And maybe Cain shouldn't have took that fight first lol. Can't give him a pass if we're not giving Fedor a pass

Ranked =/= Elite

Stipe's 6 wins are better than junior's 9. Reason being you include Roy Nelson and gonzaga in Junior's list but you don't include them in Stipe's. They were ranked when Stipe beat them as well.

And I realize we're just sharing our beliefs and debating the sport we love, I'm not taking anything you say personally!

It goes both ways lad. When Stipe beat JDS and Werdum that counts as top 5 and #1 wins for Stipe but when JDS beat Stipe and Werdum those aren't top 5 or #1 wins for JDS. You can't complain about how the rankings are unfair when it favors Miocic in other ways.

Can't have your cake and eat it too.
When you beat a guy matters.

Stipe's body of work is too small to be considered in the running.

Why "should he" have beaten Werdum?

Stipe "should have" beaten Struve and JDS. He didn't though.

Giving a pass? Wtf are you even talking about passes?

Because you mention JDS 9 wins... but only 6 of stipe's. Why did you leave two of the guys from Junior's list off of Stipe's list when he has those wins too? Just because they weren't consecutive?

Also, TS, is Ngannou an "old broken fighter" or are we ignoring that win because it upsets your narrative?

Lol this isn't accurate at all. For starters, Arlovski first lost to Stipe, then he lost to Reem. So how was he only top 10 when he fought Stipe and then after losing he became top 5? Switch those places around. Also Roy was a top 10 win for Stipe. Struve was not top 10 when he fought Reem.

Also Werdum and Mir were top 5 wins for JDS.

I love Stipe and truly believe he will be there....but i agree with TS, not yet.

ehhh.... a lot of the haters picked those "old, washed up fighers" to beat Stipe also.

But hey, he won so lets hold them against him now.

It is unfortunate because Stipe cannot create his opponents, he has to fight who is there.

UFC currently has shit fighters in heavy weight class, no fault to Stipe
