Stipe’s win streak

Its an impressive streak but I think the problem with Stipes run is theres this lingering feeling that the fights might not have played out the same at other points in history. He lost to JDS the first time and its hard to imagine him stopping a 2010 version of Reem or Werdum in the first round.

Ok but what about the unstoppable Ford Escort prospect? No matter how old they are he's fighting the only people available now. Maybe he will beat DC, maybe he will face Curtis Blaydes Jon Jones or Brock Lesnar

If he adds DC to the list he easily deserves to be discussed as one of the greatest of all time.
If you add DC to the streak, people will downplay that as him beating a fat LHW.

But I agree, DC would be yuge.
IMO, if he beats DC and beats a fit Cain after that, there is not much more he can do to prove himself. How people will interpret his record in comparison to other HWs is a never ending story (which makes all the GOAT discussions useless and fun at the same time).

People saying Werdum was not in his prime? He was the freaking champion for crying out loud!

The hilarious thing is a lot of sherdoggers STILL undermine him and downplay him.

Like 50% of you guys thing Jones would beat him in his first fight at HW. LOL.

Jon himself is smart enough to never, ever take that fight. Even if USADA fucked off.

you underestimate JJones. First thing he will do is EYEPOKE Stipe....probably More than Once........... simple fact. JJones would cheat via direction from his coach. GJackson/Wink ( SunTzu ART OF WAR. fighting is not fair). The ufc does NOT punish ........hence...EYEPOKING by top guys is LEGAL. Stipe Still might KTFO of Jjones though.

So Michael Bisping was in his prime when he got choked out by GSP? And 3 weeks later against Kelvin?

Pretty much everyone on here treated Bispings win as a fluke. Because prior to the Rockhold won, had beaten an old Silva and fringe top 10 fighter, even that marginally.

Now compare that to Werdums 6 fight win streak to the title, including 4 finishes, all dominant.

If you cant see the difference between the two, i feel sorry for you.

Thats something different than insinuating a fighter is in his prime because he was the champ

The numbers are solid but I'm still not convinced. He is big, good, tough but I can't consivdr him as all time greatness. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm a lifetime martial artist and hard to accept a part time firefighter with low level college sport background is the best HW fighter ever. Where are the superb world champion wrestlers, BJJ masters and so on? This is no offense or something like that, I'm just thinking.
The world champion wrestlers are probably wrestling and the bjj masters are probably doing jiu jitsu.

This is mma after all, a completely different martial art to the ones you mentioned.

To be honest, Werdum was the one who KTFO himself in that fight, dude is stupid for running forward chin up to the best striker in the division. If werdum fought like that against Hunt, Roy, Cain he would get KTFO the same way

Fair enough.

But my point was that Bispings situation is clearly the exception, not the rule.

Arlovski was the #2 ranked HW and people try to shit on that win LMAO

In a funny way that kind of attitude reminds me of the "who REALLY wrote Shakespeare" theories. There's been a lot of academics who've done ridiculous amounts of research and textural analysis trying to prove one or another figure of the time was the actual author of the plays. But boil down all their arguments, and they basically resolve into one thing — the inability of these people to accept that the works of genius they revere could come from a country-bred guy of undistinguished family who didn't go to university and who looks unnervingly like Tobias Fünke in Arrested Development. Surely, they think, a writer like that MUST be credentialed and well-traveled, highborn and cultured...

Stipe strikes me as sort of the ultimate utility player. They never get the recognition and star status, but I'd argue that an exceptional level of aptitude at several skills is even rarer than the highest level at one. And what sport has the potential of rewarding the generalist, not the specialist, more than mixed-martial arts?

I'll hold my opinion of Stipe to myself until after the DC fight. I'm really interested in seeing how this fight plays out.

If he wins, there can be no excuses. DC was a former HW who is currently the LHW champ of the world. Having that win on his record will look pretty great.

On the flipside, if DC wins...that changes things imo. I feel like it has the potential to be a close fight or a TKO for Stipe. However, if DC goes in there and dominates like he used to at HW, with no weight cut to worry about, we're all going to have to take DC more seriously. That would just be flat out impressive.

Either way, a win in this fight for either man does wonders for their legacies.

I disagree

Mark hunt 13-12 in MMA chin been cracked
Arlovski although on a win streak - cracked chin
Werdum leading head first was begging to get ko`d
Overreem had him hurt messed up trying to guillotine - cracked chin
Jds was a good win seems his chin is cracked to

Overall good not great win streak

True

No.... just no. Werdum's best days were behind him. how you can look at that fight and say Werdum was in his Prime is beyond me. sure he subbed Cain before that fight, but that does not in any way, mean he was in his Prime.
Let the hate flow

I also though Werdum was at his Prime. He showed improvement in each of his fights up to that point.

It's about as good as it gets at heavyweight.
