I know that there would be disastrous political consewuences if he changed his stance publicly, but I wonder if there will be any introspection on his positions on gun control.

he could appease his base by only banning Democrats from owning guns.

c'mon dude. the fact that you think this is a one sided thing means that you are the problem imo. youre galvanized against "the left." why? because the media you follow has told you theyre all the big bad wolf and you guys are just completely innocent sitting there trying to do whats right and youre being attacked for it. poor poor poor right wing victims. working at your lemonade stand and the bad liberal boy spits in your face and demands that you share your money.

LOL what? I'm part of the problem?

<TrumpWrong1>

I'm part of the solution. There may be bad examples on both sides but this is not an equal and opposite situation.

First of all I follow a broad range of information sources because I have to. Liberals control a majority of it. They run Hollywood, the broadcast networks and their news outfits, multiple cable networks, most major newspapers and a large number of the most popular websites. Not only that I have plenty of liberal friends who are constantly posting leftwing propaganda on social media. The conservative blogs that I follow also quote plenty of left wing sources as well. I can't get through my life without hearing the liberal take on things.

right now, the right controls the govt. and the right has its own partisan hacks in the media just like the left does. left has cnn, you have fox. left has msnbc, you have breitbart......all shit. and so on and so on.

For the moment Republicans are a majority, but I'm not seeing much in the way of "the right controls government". Certainly I'm not seeing much in the way of a right wing/conservative policy agenda getting passed. I think more than a few of these guys are basically liberals who claim the right or conservatism for political purposes.

Yes, the right has (or more accurately had) Fox, but that is probably going to change as the Murdoch boys take over. The entire operation there is a mess. Even if that weren't the case Fox was the leading name in cable news but is dwarfed by the total leftwing/left influenced media complex. Even if you add in talkradio and sites like Breitbart the left has the advantage in total messaging by a big margin.

right now, id agree. but thats because the left feel completely shut out of political decision making atm. if the right had felt this way with the same political rhetoric and fear mongering from their partisan media, i feel like we'd be seeing very similar behavior. and even still, the VAST majority of liberals arent burning anything or hurting anyone. women's march....largest in american history went off without any problems.

They deserve to both feel and actually be shut out of political decision making, forever. For the last 8 years they have abused their power. Whether it's Obama's ill thought out plan to gunwalk weapons to mexican drug cartels, or his handing weapons to ISIS, or nukes to iran, or using the IRS and other agencies to go after his political opponents, or left wing prosecutors indicting Perry in Texas, the John Doe investigations in Wisconsin, or empowering activists to go after Christian small businesses they have been showing just how they should be kept from it permanently.

once again though, these people exist on both sides. in this very thread for example, and many others that im not even posting in, i get called out for being a "muslim apologist." the ones who do it completely misrepresent what my stances actually are, and just attach that label to me and put words in my mouth. why? im not really sure, but people on both sides of the spectrum do this shit.

I'll be honest but I haven't followed your posts closely so I couldn't speak to that. But I have very little good to say about islam. I have lived in a muslim country and been around many muslims. Most of them were decent to me, but most of them were not really following their religion as written. By that I mean that the true goal of islam is to conquer the world and violently subjugate unbelievers. So if a muslim is being nice to you he is either not really following his religion or he is tricking you.

again i think both sides are dealing with the same things. if youre a fascist, are you on the right? yea lol. but thats a very small number of people. just like the left now get labeled as "rioters," apologists, SJW's, even if they dont truly deserve those monikers. theyll have them attached to them just because of the actions of a small percentage on their "side."

Again the volume and intensity on the left side of things is much greater. A left wing nutter just tried to kill a bunch of Republicans at a baseball field. Now more than a few people on the left are actually justifying it by saying shit like "well they tried to take away his health insurance."

And speaking for myself, my reactions are just that, a reaction. Progressives have made it clear that they intend to demolish things I care about and use the government to go after people that want to hang on to those things. They are the aggressors in the culture war, and conservatives are the defenders. They have made it clear that they are going to use identity politics to scapegoat Christians, whites, males, and conservatives. They are making us the source of everyone else's problems.

It's also not enough for them to get "rights" for groups they politically favor. If people like me just want to opt out and live our lives without harassment they are going to call us bigots and discriminatory and go after us. They will use the full force of government and the power of the mob to make our lives hell and wreck us financially. And don't tell me it won't happen because it is happening. Just ask the bakers in Oregon, The Little Sisters of the Poor, Hobby Lobby, and many more.

People need to chill out and stop this whole war talk. It's safe to say that there are mentally unstable people on both sides, who are waiting for the OK to go ahead and do shit like this.

The moment you start justifying violence against people with opposite views, you are inviting the mentally ill people on the other side to do the same to you. Remember that.
At this point, its going to be self defense.
Its beyond ridiculous, this entire tantrum the left is throwing and Im not convinced that a damned good whipping isnt long overdue.

Louisianians are tough as nails. Geaux Tigers. @Cajun

Both sides need some heavy introspection. The left needs to stop resorting to hysterics at any mention of anything, and be far less ready for violence. The right needs to look at how most americans want sensible gun regulations. Steve Scalise routinely voted to ensure nutjobs like the guy who shot him have ready access to purchasing firearms.

Nothing will happen though. If Gabby Giddord getting shot in the face did nothing, if seeing little kids in bodybags at Sandy Hook did nothing, nothing will.

More gun regulations won't do anything. That's a liberal fantasy.

What America wants is by definition decided in elections, not in polls and surveys.
Republicans made very clear what their stance on guns is, Trump made very clear what his stance on guns is.
Republicans hold house, senate and the presidency.
Hillary made it clear and she lost.

Our representatives are supposed to represent us. Good luck talking to your governor, or state reps, ever.

At least not in cases like this one.
This guy literally had a hit list and committed an assassination attempt.
He's a terrorist.
You think there's any country on this planet where a terrorist won't be able to get a weapon if he wants to assassinate politicians @hillelslovak87 ?

A fantasy, tested in many European Countries to good effect.
It won't work here.

Plus, we need our guns. We've got chickens and there's some predators that would like to have them for supper. And I just saw 2 of them near my house today when I was out riding my dirt bike.

Dont you think restrictions should be in place that make it way harder for a guy like that to get a gun, or be flagged when he tries to?

Gun laws don't stop a targeted attack which is planned in advance.
You can buy a gun somewhere on the street in every big European city as well.
The terrorists in Paris had weapons in November 2015, the terrorists who stormed Charlie Hebdo had weapons, Anis Amri who crashed a truck into a Christmas market was armed. Other terrorists in Europe had bombs and I'm pretty sure those were not legal either.
Once somebody plans an attack and wants to use a weapon, he'll get one.

And? So if the law does not stop people from getting weapons 100 percent of the time, fuck it? What about Australia? They dont have terrorist gun attacks all the time. The people of Australia seem pretty happy about their state of affairs. They had their own Sandy Hook in 1996, and did what they thought was best, restricting ownership of guns greatly, and they dont have mass shootings all the time.

Also, I hope nobody attempts the "Our guns are for stopping tyranny" bit. It's hilarious to me.

Not trying to derail, but just wanted to point out this post sums up @ripskater in a nutshell. It's my new favorite post of his.

"We lose 93 million Americans a day to gun violence." - Gov. Terry McAuliffe

Never let a crisis go to waist to push your political agenda for gun control. This idiot doesn't even realize that none of us would even be here in America at that rate of violence.
