Lol, sounds like some pandering PC pussy-ass bullshit.
I'm probably the only one but I really dislike Bryan Fuller's rehashed Hannibal score being used in American Gods. If you want an example, it's the scene where Vulcan and Wednesday are talking inside Vulcan's house.
I agree. And in this last episode in particular the music was really distracting.
It's just the wrong type of music that just gives off a downer and depressing vibe throughout.
Finally caught the last episode. Loved it Im very fond of Gaelic mythology so it was nice to see it featured. I thought the Doo Wop music was a good fit oddly enough.
Bryan Fuller has gone full can mode. Like the fuck in zoom in to the beer bottle. The fuck was the point of that? So many of the extreme closeups and slowmo are unnecessary, just silly masturbation.
Show is fucking TERRIBLE. How do you get this job without being able to tell a coherent story? Its like they went to the Peter Jackson School of Filler Content.
inb4 y do you keep watching... I watch because I love mythology and I hope for the best.
They could have done so much more with Irish Folklore than they did. They didn't even show McSweeney until the very end.
That scene was actually pretty deep, imo.
1. Mexican Jesus must lose some of his power in the US.
2. The different manifestations of Christianity. In the US you have all these right wing Evangelical "Christians" who want to kill people and cut social programs (the antithesis of anything J.C. would do) vs. the Mexican Jesus who is helping the meek.
WELL I LIKED IT OKAY PAL
also huh? sweeney was there before the very end
agree about the slo mo abuse though
I mean as a leprechaun in the flashback story. Even as fellow prisoner it does nothing to expand on the folklore.
The Essie story drew parallels between laura's life and also served as a point to humanize Sweeney who was pretty much just a cunt before hand in the show.
tough to miss the heavy handed parallels, but it doesn't contradict my point.
It was a entire episode wasted (the 3rd fully wasted episode of the 8 ep season...) on drawing a stupid parallel without expanding on any of the mythology.
And McSweeney is a 6'5" leprechaun, he doesn't. and shouldn't be humanized, imo. His motivations should be leprechauny (which imo they were: he did a job bregrudently for Wednesday, who he hates, and he had an opportunity to "correct" it. Now his conscious is semi-clear and he may have fucked Wednesday in the process. Essie isn't even a sympathetic character.
Im probably the only one loving the show, even the weaker episodes like this one I find really interesting, I never realised people actually believe in leprechauns. Also it was a good twist that Wednesday got McSweeney to kill her the first time. Have a feeling all this may backfire on him.
Got American Gods next on my viewing schedule now; just finished watching the first episode. I've kinda gotten the impression you guys abhor this show, but I thought the first episode was pretty good at least. Maybe I just feel it is refreshing to watch something new, rather than the old superhero/game of softcore fantasy/gritty gangster shows.
i love the show. i think there are a lot of nit picky people on sherdog and the internet in general so you may get a skewed view of public opinion.
I will say episodes 5 and 6 i thought were a little subpar, but that's probably just because i thought 1-4 were spectacular. i think the focus of the show is a bit different than what i thought it would be after watching the first few episodes, but so far 7 and 8 i liked a lot as well.
Couldn't agree more. I liked that episode best so far, minus the annoying, shrilly music. Way too much, way too loud.
Episode 8 is amazing. I can't believe a second rate channel like Starz gave them the budget to do these spectacular effects. I love every scene with Technical Boy and Media- Gillian Anderson's screen presence is off the charts here. I have never considered her more than an average character actor before, but she is spectacular on this show. And every scene with Sweeney and Laura is a delightful treat- brilliant chemistry there. In fact, the weakest link in the show is Wednesday and Shadow. Is Shadow supposed to be this dull in the book? He has no real personality or motivation so far.
