The Palpatine theory doesn't work since she's supposed to be roughly 19 years old in Force Awakens and its been at least 30 years since Return of the Jedi when Palpatine died.

Some kind of clone perhaps? there could be other fashions she had some darkside link I spose, maybe Vader's daughter/clone from his Sith years or perhaps simply had a natural gift for the darkside that Luke recognised.

Makes a ton of sense

The best thing they could do in these films is turn Rey into the villain (who stays the villain) and turn Kylo into the hero (who stays the hero). That would be wild and be one hell of a twist. It would totally redeem the near-irredeemable turd that was TFA.

And hopefully they end up killing the insufferable Finn.
