I'm a lazy TS, so I've waited until the story's almost over before making a thread about it, but it's been a long fight, and Jacob Zuma looks set to get the fuck out.

    https://www.timeslive.co.za/politics/2018-02-13-anc-confirms-it-has-recalled-jacob-zuma/

A couple hours ago, he was threatening to retaliate if recalled:

    https://www.enca.com/south-africa/do-what-you-want-to-do-zuma-tells-anc

But he's apparently got until the end of the day to resign anyway:

    https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/...til-end-of-tuesday-to-resign-sources-20180213

This is damned good news, but far from the end. The man who'll likely replace him, Cyril Ramaphosa, has his own problems, scandals and blood-stained hands, but as far as competence goes, he's a better option by far.
The risk with getting rid of Zuma before the general elections though, is that voters might decide that Zuma was the problem, and not the fractured, corrupt mess that is the ANC. In that case, getting rid of the man will rob us of the urgency to get rid of his party.

    UPDATE

Zuma resigned last night. His Indian crime family friends have been raided and arrested and his son is being sought by law enforcement:

The South African rand's already gotten stronger in response:

Is this the guy that Clarkson and Co. made fun of for raising taxes and then proceeding to buy like Bentley's and multiple mansions on tax money?

They should give the presidency to "Ace Magashule" based on his name alone.

Don't be jealous, just because we actually managed to get rid of a president that we didn't like ;)

Nah. Malema's not shown enough popularity. Rural zulus are the EFF's strongest base, and there aren't enough of them to carry him to the presidency.
The ANC, under Cyril Ramaphosa, is probably going to resurge in popularity during the next elections (which is the downside to getting rid of Zuma) and if not, Malema will have to make an alliance with the Democratic Party if he wants his share of power.

The Brits are indirectly responsible for this country's history of fuck-ups.
Unlike the States we, unfortunately, lost our bid for independance back in the day. I'd have been interested to have seen what would have happened in SA if the UK had failed to annex the Cape or had lost the Boer wars.

Get over the race thing. The brits went to war with, and took power away from "whitey" first.
If it weren't for the Anglo-boer wars and the Anglo-Zulu war, South Africa might have had a far less controversial history.

Good for you guys. Here's for hoping for blue skies.

With my immense knowledge of the country's political environment, I will be openly hoping for an enthusiastic election between Trevor Noah and the singer from 2000s radio rock band Seether.

Fun fact, they were originally called Saron Gas, but had to change the name and clean up some of their tunes to score a contract with an American label.
Used to be casual mates with them, but they were dead to me from that point onward.

Also, Trevor Noah is a dishonest ponce.
