It was ok. The ultimate case of style over substance. As they go through the different areas, and each area and character is more over the top than the last, I was just taken out of it.


It's like it doesn't know if it wants to be serious or over the top and goofy, so it tries to do both and it just doesn't work.

Of all the heavily praised movies of the last decade, this is perhaps my least favorite. It was so heavyhanded with everything from the action cliches to the Third Reich allegory that it made John Woo look like a master of nuance and subtlety. There were a number of talented people involved, but the result was something I found pretty torturous. It didn't even look like a movie based on a video game; it looked like a Pewdiepie Let's Play, made all the more painful by its masquerade as high concept science fiction with a message. Oh well. Two hours is an almost negligible loss.

In other words it's a piece of crap.
