Skipping / Jump Rope work

    I have had a search on here but cant really find what I am looking for I am looking for some skipping "progressions" I am ok at just normal skipping and I tend to do rounds of that but looking to add more "footwork" into it but I would like to know how to build up to this and any particular types of moves I should progress onto so I can look up videos of how to do them.

    I hope this makes sense!

    Skip with both feet -> one foot, then the other -> side to side -> front to back -> single foot hops
    Footwork progression

    Skip with both feet, grade school style -> switch the feet -> side swing -> cross over
    Those allow you to get the basic trick progression, keep it fun

    Have fun skipping rope! It's a very enjoyable part of training and helps with many aspects

    Google Ross enamiat, he's a boxing coach and also strength and conditioning guy. He has a DVD/ book just dedicated to rope work. He has videos on YouTube as well.

    Do you skip whilst moving in every direction?

    I remember when I first started Muay Thai, my instructor made me skip. I had always been conditioned that skipping was a girly skill thus I resisted doing the skipping. And I sucked at it too so that didn't help. Once I got the skill down, I loved skipping. I would rather skip for an hour than go for a run.

    cant believe im reading such blasphemous words haha! though I do agree, ended up loving jumping rope more then I ever thought (only the thai ropes, boxing ones are damn near impossible for me to use now)

    its tough finding a balance.. or rather the time to do both, since they play a critical role of building you up as a fighter
