I have never done a sport in my life and that's mostly because I'm clumsy and a very slow learner. On top of that I have a low pain tolerance but I really want to learn how to box and wrestle but my biggest fear is making a fool of myself. Do you think I should sign up or just avoid it all together ?

yeah buddy

also should i ask this girl out at the gym, she is very cute and i think she likes me, but i don't want to make a fool of myself

avoid it like the plague and accept the loser that you are.

Absolutely sign up. You make yourself sound like a weak bitch, but you're probably not that different than me or most who have ever tried a new sport. Never be afraid to learn, my man. Best of luck to you.

Take up swimming or tennis with low pain threshold condition of yours....

To start, get a girlfriend.

...that will definitely give you a higher tolerance for pain.

You should sign up for BJJ.

It's for those who struggle with striking and will probably end up on the ground often. Lower risk and much easier end goal. And there's a chance you can get some size 18 thighs wrapped around your head. Or spend a lot of time hugging dudes, whichever you fancy. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Stop asking strangers & go do it.

yo everyone looks like an idiot on their first day. My first day going to aboxing gym when i was a kid i thought i was a lil beast cuz I used to fight alot. Got my nose broken bad as fuck. Fell inlove with the sport tho and kept at it.

Nowadays its unlikely they'll make you spar with anyone or do anything real on your first few visits. It seems like you just kinda show up do some drills and a ton of cardio at most gyms.

You should absolutely do it tho, man thefuck up and dont be so worried about what other people think. Would you rather look goofy for a day learning how to defend yourself or be immortalized on worldstar for years to come in the unlikely event that someone stomps you out someday and you got no idea how to block a punch?

Just dive into it and force yourself to do it, if it hurts keep doing it till it doesnt.

Low Pain tolerance isnt a condition, it is something that can be improved upon as long as you are determined; thats why its a tolerance.
I've taught martial arts and Boxing before so trust me on this: You will look dumb very often when learning things when looked at by verterans. The next Lesson: Looking dumb doesnt fucking matter. Everyone has looked dumb at some point and didn't learn something right away. All it takes is the time and willingness to work hard in the sport, Just remember to enjoy it or there is no point to it.

Nah... don't waste time with grappling.
It's going to make you look silly and you'll end up with a bunch of straight guys snickering at you as you tote your cauliflower ear having ass into the dojo to roll around.
It just isn't worth it.

Go for it and don't be shy or embarrassed the reason you're signing up is to learn .. Nobody is going to expect you to walk in and be a pro after a few months.
you live only once don't be scared to try something or chase a dream.

Enjoy :)

If you're afraid of not getting off to a good start in class that's understandable. You could start doing pushups, skipping rope, and running, etc to get a little in shape first, (you can also practice balance and footwork drills from youtube, things like that will only help) that will help a LOT if you are very weak or have little endurance. It will make you able to learn and do things much quicker in class by cuttng down on the time you would have wasted at the beginning. Physical limitations CAN likely keep you from being able to execute basic movements that are being taught. If you are very weak, it might take 6 months but you will feel great just in the very first week or two and will continue to enjoy seeing your own progress. This has to be experienced, it is a distinct sensation so amazing that it cannot be described.

If you are average or above average athleticism, you should be fine to start right now (or take just a few weeks to get in better shape). But it's your call.

[edit] if you are very weak, I would start with wrestling. It's probably the most important for you in this scenario and can help with your footwork, balance, equilibrium, toughness and distance-judement/timing awareness later when you take boxing. Extremely useful.

If you are already athletic and strong then boxing might be the thing for you to jump right into.

lol have you ever been through a real competitive club swim practice? extremely hard and painful, albeit in a different way than boxing. go do 12 200 IM's on a descending interval and tell me you're not in pain haha

Just do it and thank us later. It'll toughen you up for other things in life as well.

Very true...plus all the swimwer/water polo players I knew were all ripped.

People think porn stars aren't athletes but can you imagine some of the pain those women go through?
