"Fighting has been my life for more than 15 years. It's what I have chosen for myself, and what I love to do. For me it's really hard to have to step out of a fight, really difficult, and to accept that this was the only viable alternative wasn't easy at all. Unfortunately, still early in this camp, I injured my knee. I spent all Camp doing all within my reach to be able to fight on September 23rd, trained the whole time under medication, protection in my knee, ice and physical therapy. I went beyond my limit because fighting in Japan again is something I have been dreaming about for a long time, because I didn't want to disappoint the fans, and because I was raised this way in martial arts by my master.

I already stepped up to fight injured several times in my career, and there was no lack of effort. But unfortunately all the effort only worsened the injuries, and a time came when my team and I had to accept that there were no alternatives, and I had to leave the fight. It was not easy. I want to apologize my opponent, I've been in the same situation even when we faced the first time, and I know it is never easy, and especially to apologize to the public, especially to all those who were anxiously awaiting this fight. I'll take care of my recovery now, heal my injuries and come back stronger. Challenges are put in front of us every day, and what really matters is how we face them. Thank you for everyone's affection."

he doesnt say, but that left knee of his man... its mangled. i hope he takes some time off to heal it properly, maybe does some steam cell treatment... that left knee has 3 ACL reconstructions, definitely is a weak spot.

He took an arrow to the knee. I think this is the last of his adventures.

    Clearly he's ducking.

Because any time anyone pulls out of a fight/doesn't take it when we want them to, it's because they're scared.

    Right sherdog?

I don't. I'm pretty sure coming back soon after a knee injury is one the reason his knees are permanently fucked up.

You doubt that Shogun has a knee injury?

At first I was disappointed to hear that Shogun's fight was no longer happening. I really wanted to see Shogun get his revenge on OSP

To find out that Shogun actually suffered another knee injury is sad, but it makes me very happy to hear that Shogun didn't go through with the fight with the injury

This IS what Shogun should've done against Forrest.

This IS what Shogun should've done against Jones instead of accepting Jones on short notice while injuried

This is what Shogun should've done for the first Hendo fight.

Injuried Shogun is a shell of himself

To see an injuried Shogun still fight and lose because he wasn't 100%, is MUCH MUCH MORE disappointing. It's much worse

I rather see Shogun pull out, get healthy and come back later, and then give us a stellar performance to be happy about

I'm really glad that Eduardo and Shogun are now making decisions based on what's BEST FOR THEM

For the longest time I hated that Shogun was always going out of his way to fight injuried or on short notice

Where did it get Shogun? Losses and never any rewards for it.

If Shogun had managed his career better from the start Shogun would have much less losses.

Eduardo has done a great job.

I'm talking about the Chute Boxe "macho" mentality that is toxic that Shogun was brainwashed by

Shogun is a warrior, has never ducked anyone. I hope he comes back strong and finishes his career on a high.

    Dang, Shogun's 4th knee injury.

    Hopefully medicine has advanced enough.

Stem cells are a big thing now

Shogun will come back still as good as ever. Even before this Shogun was already compensating for a decline in health via improving his skill, fight IQ and tactics. Fighting is all about skill.

I hope Eduardo and Shogun use the time off to continue to increase fight IQ. The mind is the most important thing. Shogun should be studying film, taking tricks that the greats in boxing used and just keeping his fighting mind SHARP

Shogun has consistently been evolving his game and that isn't going to stop

"come back stronger" - not a chance

His knees were bad back when he won the title from machida, and that was 7 years ago.
He needs to just retire already. Like Bas said if youre in that much pain and getting injured in training, its your body telling you to stop. If only more fighters listened...
