I have been watching MMA for a very long time. All the way back to PRIDE, I even went cold-turkey on the UFC(couldn't stand their promo) and just watched PRIDE.

I watched Fedor in PRIDE. I was a fan. I thought of Dana as an angry man when he talked about Fedor like he wasn't great.

Slowly over the years, still before the UFC bought PRIDE, I started to question the reasons behind Fedors decision not to fight in the UFC. Before Dana White made a smiley face on Twitter when Werdum beat Fedor I had made up my mind. Perhaps Fedor was just a great showmen. Perhaps Fedors teams were great managers. Perhaps Americans viewed Russians as mysterious, because of our history, which can bode well for fighting.

I feel like ever since Fedor started in PRIDE, MMA fans have placed Russian fighters as great fighters in MMA.

Fedors aura transfers to other Russian fighters. In most cases, its all unwarranted.

The lastest fighter the Sherdog Russian shoe shiners are pegging to be great is Zabit Magomedsharipov.
They say he will be champion. They say he can beat Max Holloway and Brain Ortega today.

Why would MMA watchers say something like that?
Why would MMA watchers just let him jump the line?

It took Max Holloway an 11 fight winning streak to face a champion. The last 5 of those bouts were against:

Charles Oliveira
Jeremy Stephens
Ricardo Lamas
Anthony Pettis

What has Zabit done to gain all this praise?

Reality

Tumenov got exposed for no ground game. Got subbed by a great BJJ guy and then got subbed by a Brit. He quit the UFC.

Krylov also showed that he can't heck it in the sub defense.

Bagautinov is a known cheat and someone that doesnt care about cheating. He was one of the most boring flyweight fighters in the UFC.
He had 7 fights in the UFC and only beat one good fighter, John Lineker. He lost 3 fights and quit the UFC. Dude went on to get knocked out by Tyson Nam


Makhachev got his chin exposed against Jose Aldos BBJ coach.

Again who has he beaten?

Taisumov...................... did you see his fight against Des Green? This is who you shoe shiners think can be champion? He was gifted a decision against someone that was 2-2 in the UFC.

Khabilov was just gifted a decision win against Kajan Johnson. KAJAN JOHNSON. I cant make this up.
This guy is the most boring fighter I can think of.
He has one name to his UFC career. Jorge Masvidal. Many lost he lost the fight. FYI, Medeiros got a winning streak later on.
Of his 11 UFC wins only two of them would be ranked. He lost to one of them; Henderson.

Putting Fedor in that crowd is a bit fucked up , he was HW champ in the deepest HW division so far in MMA & for a long fucking time , yes he put the smack down on some cans but he also fought everybody else along the way .

You can obviously see the talent in Zabit. I don't like it when people straight nut hug Russian fighters. I am not going to lie though, I do get surprised when I see Brazilian fighters who don't know bjj.

so zero actual "russians" so too speak. non the less theres some talent coming out of the region so im not sure your assesment is fair but it can be warranted....for the time being anyway.

If you don't think Makhachev and Zabit are solid prospects, then I don't know what to tell you. While you're out there analyzing fighters wiki pages and fight finders to look at names vs names vs names vs names, I'll be watching the fights and looking at their skills.

I think some people are scared of change. Who cares if someone else is excited for new prospects? I for one like new talent especially when they bring a style that we haven't seen.
