Alright I'm gonna ask you building wizzes to help me out. I've got a Pentium G3258 @ 3.20GHz(dualcore) which I want to upgrade. I know this also means I'm gonna have to buy a new mobo and ram. So I got my eyes set on the 7 series i5, but I get overwhelmed when looking at all the choices for motherboards. I've never overclocked and I don't know if I will ever need to just for gaming (I also see that I need to get an unlocked processor for overclocking which happens to be the most expensive one.)

So where I'm going with all this nonsense is I want an i5 motherboard and ram upgrade, but I'd like to make it affordably efficient if that makes sense. I'd like to keep the motherboard and ram combo at under 250.

If you're not going to overclock

Ram:

Here's a list of all the motherboards you can use

If you want to try overclocking, that G3258 you have is a perfect chip to try it on. I got really, really good overclocks on that chip.

It is probably worth looking at AMD Ryzen instead of the i5

Wait a daggun minute...
Someone else might be better at the overclocking stuff. Last thing I went oc crazy on was ivy bridge and i haven't had the time to really get into my kaby build.

LOL, alright, I was too lazy to get going, and @m52nickerson was the only person who composed the guide section he said he would, so I figured he deserved v6. At some point I swear that I'll marshal the will to get that guide built. I'm surprised I haven't found a satisfactory one to steal and rebroadcast.
