Sherdog fired Jordan Breen?

Is he the eyeliner-wearing pecker puffer? With "Jordan" as his name; he was destined to play with mommy's makeup...

Sherdog's writing has always been low-quality. There is no reason to pay any decent amount of money for bad writing on the internet in 2018. People will shell out content for cheap or free. Hell, you could find a couple of forum posts on any given day that are written better than the articles on this site.

Weird that this thread was bumped. Just earlier today it popped into my head.

Heard he posted a porn video on the UFC discussion forum.

Yikes, I'd fire this guy too.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/Five-Lessons-Learned-from-PFL-10-144213

It's a bad article. Or, as Jordan Breen would say, it's an insanely terrible article. He uses insane (or a variation thereof) four times. The article is purely negative. It took him the first 100+ words of the story to say, "Any nostalgic goodwill that PFL earned with fans by supporting a tournament-style 'season' is quickly fading, as the promotion continues to execute events poorly."

There are numerous instances of redundancy and downright inconsistency and confusion. For example, he states that Abdel-Aziz has no "internal ties" to PFL. Leaving aside the quesiton of how a human can have external ties to something, the problem is that Jordan then says that Abdel-Aziz is friendly with and holds sway over PFL decision-makers. These are not ties?

This is one of the worst metaphors I've ever heard: "explosively emerging as fertile grounds." When I think of an explosion with earth emerging, I think more of...grenades. Not farms. I digress. I could find over 100 valid criticisms of this one piece, ranging from technical mistakes (missing commas, bad grammar) to merely annoying prose (calling a person "incredibly powerful" in a role where neither word is necessary for the point being made) to downright awful. Speaking of that downright awful thing, all you need to know about why Jordan Breen should not get paid to write anything is this absolute mess of an excerpt:

"Never mind the fact that a two-round fight has an enormous capacity to undermine a legitimately superior fighter and that fighting twice in one night always presents the risk of a fighter pulling out after winning their first fight, as Abubakar Nurmagomedov did on after beating Bojan Velickovic."

I can't even. Back in the days when I was a newspaper editor, I would have crossed out this entire section and asked the writer if he even proofread his piece before bringing it to me. Complete trash. It's not just bad writing. It's annoying writing. It's bad writing with pretentions of being great writing, and that's the worst kind. It would be like a novice fighter who couldn't throw a proper 1-2 yet insisted on spending most of his training time throwing spinning back kicks. This guy needs to go back to writing basics: clarity, concision, accuracy, cohesion, etc.

Crave, Sherdog’s parent company, is gutting the media side of the site.

The media side got gutted long ago. Loretta Hunt pretty much ran off everyone worth a damn. The guy that was here before her was easier to deal with, but he'd take your content and basically completely rewrite but still with your name on it. I was one and done write for Sherdog. I didn't even take payment. I just said no thanks and wished them the best of luck.

I neither liked nor disliked him. No reaction.

Good that sorry motherfucker is currently biting off my shit for his own analysis.

I havent listened/read anything here since MMA Sunday School and also Josh Gross. I assumed he was already long gone.

These guys are all dorks

I don't come here for the opinions of these 39 year old basement dwellers, I come here to check the forums, upcoming fights, and pbp

Dude can go get a job at the Quickie Mart and still watch his little UFC he wants

They need to keep cleaning house and getting rid of head honcho, the cheeto-fingered Mike Sherwood or whatever that diabetes case name was was a good start

Now they gotta get rid of Dana White impersonator in a suit 3 sizes too big for him TJ Dos Santos or whoever and this place will be off to the races

Did anyone figure out if this is, in fact, Dana White?

Crave has fired nearly all full-time staff and hires freelancers. Cheap and makes for poor content, but makes them money.

To be fair the mma media is a joke. Most are only worried about their credentials. Investigative journalism is nonexistent. If they aren’t feed the info from the UFC brass all they have is writing 5 different articles about a 5 minute interview someone else did. The posters here break more stories, and uncover more than the media does.

It wasn't exaggerated at all. He talked about this in detail. They removed him from his old position and drastically cut his pay. He's basically just a freelance writer for Crave now.
not a tonne of money for freelance work on MMA blogs. Dude is way too self-indulgent for mainstream work; it reads like he came out of an undergrad creative writing course. That said, I don't wish ill on anyone, best of luck to the guy.
