It seems like he's just being nice there; it's not really his job to go all Gracie challenge on them. He works in Hollywood, you can bet your life he's seen far worse in the way of bullshit. If someone sat him down and asked him if that's what he thought was effective martial arts he'd tell the truth about it, just like he's done with most of Hollywood's martial arts scene.
