1/23 BJJ

Chris taught class in the gi. We drilled the basic butterfly sweep with an overhook/underhook setup.

I was one of the higher belts at class this day so rolling was pretty easy. I was hitting a lot of butterfly sweeps. I felt good against the few purple belts that I rolled with, it was an "on" day for me for sure.

1/24 BJJ

Alex taught nogi class. We worked on the transitioning to the crucifix position from turtle when the bottom man grabs for your front leg and then finishing with a choke or armbar.

Rolling went well again today. My core game has been tightening up a lot as of late and I give a lot of the higher ups a hard time now. It's not that I'm tapping them out often, it is rare, but there's a lot of back-and-forth sweeping going on. I've finally worked out a series that I can work pretty well to escape from side control back to half and then back on top again which helps me avoid getting my ass kicked so much.

1/25 BJJ

Alex taught class in the gi. Today was more crucifix drilling from the other day.

We didn't roll for as many rounds as we usually do since we were starting from the feet today. My takedowns need work. Gi takedowns for me are much harder then nogi due to my long past wrestling background. I really ought to take some Judo classes but I never make the time for it.

BJJ

Chris taught class in the gi. We drilled the baseball bat choke from KOB and reversing KOB by mule kicking and sitting up to a single leg.

Rolling went well. I tapped out a purple belt from another school six or so times. Not sure what was up with that...

1/31 BJJ

Alex taught nogi class. We drilled getting the gift wrap from the mount and transferring to an armbar or taking the back off of the gift wrap.

Rolling went well. I got my ass kicked by one of the resident brown belts but that is to be expected.
 
2/1 BJJ

Alex taught class in the gi today. We went over the gift wrap position again to the armbar and to taking the back. We also went over transitioning from the armbar to the triangle if you feel you're going to have a hard time breaking your opponents grip.

Rolling went as I expected against all of my usual training partners.

Alex taught class in the gi. We reviewed back escapes, pulling the arm across and getting your back to the mat on the opposite side of the choking arm and rolling through the choke as a last resort.

I did really well during rolling today. I did well against some blue belts that outweighed me by several weight classes and I held my own against a purple belt that has been beating me up since the day I started training.

Tonight we had an open mat due to the blizzard.

I rolled with a bunch of purple belts and did well considering what I was up against. I've been getting a lot of compliments on my half guard... got to keep it up.

2/11 BJJ

Alex taught class in the gi. We reviewed the standard armbar to triangle setup from guard. Then we reviewed failed arm drag to leg lace to x guard and sweep... complicated.

Alex taught class in the gi. We went over passing spider guard and transitioning from a simple spider guard pass into an armbar.

Rolling went well. I got a little overzealous at one point and slammed one of my partners doing a standing guard pass. I felt like a dick and apologized right away... I basically started pushing him down and instead of waiting for his guard to open I plopped back down on the mat. Very rare of me to be spazzing like that.

2/16 BJJ

Alex taught class in the gi. We went over a sweep from spider guard and drilled back attacks.

Rolling was ok, but I was a little off today. A lot of the blue belts that I usually have an easy time controlling were escaping from my side control.

Alex taught class in the gi. We drilled a spider guard sweep.

I did very well during rolling. My sweeps were on point and I was giving some people a hard time that usually dominate me. I had a pretty good roll with Alex. He beat my ass as usual but I felt I provided at least a minimal amount of resistance before tapping today.
