Muay Thai boxer Jordan Coe, 20, from Scotland has died of a suspected heatstroke while trying to make the weight for a bout in Thailand.

Coe died when he went out in a heavy tracksuit while attempting to shed 3kg to make the 61kg weight limit for a bout on Sunday in Bangkok.

RIP Jordan Coe.
Weight cutting is the scourge of modern pro fighting sports. Something has to be done.

Ive known and trained with Jordan since he was 12, we both started training at roughly the same time. He was the most genuine little guy anyone could ever wish to meet. Theres only a handful of people Ive trained with that I have genuine love for.... and he was one of them :(

its truly heartbreaking

I didn't know weightcutting was an issue in Muay Thai. I always thought it was mostly just a problem in MMA due to the influence of wrestlers and the fact that there can be a noticeable advantage to being heavier while grappling. I'm guessing native Thais don't usually cut a lot of weight, is that correct?

RIP

he didnt usually cut a lot of weight, I think it was more to do with the time of day he went out running in his sauna suit. it was at the hottest time of the day, and he was by himself in an unfamiliar area(thats how no-one found him until the next day).

he wouldve been walking around at most about 65kg, they said he had 3 kg to lose before he went his run so Im guessing he just put off his weight cut until the last minute and thought with it being really hot he could lose the weight easily. a kg is 2.2lbs so thats my educated guess from knowing him, but not knowing the actual details.

and thais cut weight also, but its minimal in comparison to western fighters

Damn that's horrible.

Was it same day weigh in or day before? Would same day weigh in somehow prevent such accidents do you think?

In Thailand weigh ins a normally always the morning of the fight. In the major stadiums (raja, lumpinee, ch7) they are usually say 6-6:30 am the morning of the fight, the only exception I think may be CH5 as they fight at 12pm midday.

Shame about Jordan, he was great to watch n from what I've heard a great guy. I hope he gets back to his family for a final goodbye.

Yea why cant we all weigh in well fed and hydrated or weigh in skipping breakfast?

If it was the same day then it's even crazier that someone would want to lose 3+ kg and fight on the same day... maybe weigh ins should be right before a fight?

It happened the day before the fight

Thought it was odd that Jordan fought at 57kg on Rebellion a few months earlier and then died trying to make 61kg???

Weight cutting is very risky!!

Possibly more down to the heat at the time of day he was running

Yeah I get that, but you think a more seasoned fighter with his experience would be more careful...I really don't know what to think
