When discussing who is the FW GOAT, what are we asking exactly? What is the criteria? What and when is relevant... who and how isn’t?



There is an argument to be made either way and if you can’t accept that then you’re probably being bias.

I will say this, imo the most direct path for either man to cement their claim is:
Aldo: reclaim the title.
Max: avenge his loss to Conor
McG: reclaim the title.

The standard metric—that has always applied to every GOAT always—BEGINS with Title defenses.

That’s the basic foundation. There is only one fighter who people try to make exceptions for when it comes to this.

People who want special rules to apply do so out of what?

Bias.

This is a two person race.

Title defenses alone shouldn't be the criteria for being the best in the weight class but it is definitely an important one. Aldo's 9 title defenses should have him as number 1 for now but max shouldn't need 9 or more to surpass him. A few more along with his other accomplishments will make him greater than Aldo. As for Conor, winning the title back and beating max, having like 2-3 defenses should definitely cement his legacy as the fw best but that is really far fetched imo.

Exactly. Quality over quantity to an extent. If Max defends a couple more times then he will surpass Aldo as he has beaten him twice. If Conor came and beat Max for the title, defended against Aldo, Tcity, Frankie and Mendez then he would be in the running. At this stage Aldo is FW king.

I don't even know the reason for this thread.
Aldo is current GOAT of FW division.
Max can surpass him in time, but it is fairly obvious he is not there yet.
Max himself said so.

Conor was NEVER in this consideration since he never defended the gold.

Anyone that disagree with the above is pure simply blind.

Does it matter that Conor win vs Aldo was a complete fluke and also he had a win over a green Holloway ? if you wanna pull out the ACL tear excuse max broke his ankle too in the first round . Also Siver , Brimmage , Brandao are nothing near tough competition.
