Believable but sad. CM Punk's only status as a draw was a one-off. People saw how he did in the Gall fight. They weren't paying for that again.

This should at least shut the door on the CM punk experiment.

That's a real shame. It was a very good card. But really I can't say much since I streamed it...

Again, no one buys PPV anymore. It's mindblowing the UFC keeps on using this format. Only people in the USA are dumb enough for this and it looks like even them are finally catching up to it.

That sounds too low to be accurate, much worse cards in the last year or two got 250k buys.

If true, at least that moment has arisen which Dana requested, where Overeem is now as big a draw as CM Punk and he can now return to his rightful place on the main card. If he doesn’t refire first and If the UFC don’t sign another actor with even more appeal that is.

It feels like the UFC cant do anything right atm, at least in a commercial sense. 223 was supposed to be a pretty big card, then it completely fell apart before it started. Then they made 225 stacked like an old school card, even putting a Punk freakshow fight on it to attract the pro wrestling crowd....guaranteed 500k right? NOPE. 226 is their most stacked card since 2016, pretty much a triple main event card, it SHOULD do 800k...but based on this news? not a fucking chance.

Somehow the Fertittas knew this was coming and cashed out at the perfect moment.

I dont think theres a shortage of interest in the sport. Everyone loves it.
But nobody buys the ppvs anymore.
Hell, I am a 14+ year loyal viewer. seen every ppv and fight night. yet I only ever bought a handful of ppvs.
Theres too many, too expensive and its unrealistic to expect fans to afford and pay for them all.
Who the hell has cable nowadays anyways?
Make fightpass like 25 bucks and give us all the ppvs on that. We all stream it anyways

RE: the "PPV is dying" argument, didnt the UFC have its most commercially successful year ever on PPV in 2016? they broke a million buys FIVE times that year. The Conor/Diaz 2 card did 1.6m which is their biggest drawing card ever.

Boxing has had some big buyrates (several 1m+) last year too.

the fact almost everyone nowadays has internet that can stream in HD can't help PPVs.
