Rickson vs Sakuraba

Rickson was 41, not a spring chicken.

But he hadn't had the number of fights and damage that Funaki had. Yoel Romero is currently 41, the same age as Vitor Belfort and 2 years younger than Machida. Yet his late MMA start and limited damage makes him a completely different fighter. Funaki's history of injuries and wear-n-tear is well known.

How was that propaganda??

It was admitted by all gracies and even modern fighters that rolled with him.

Royce was a piker next to him. They literally threw out the weakest gracie.

You sir are not short on hate or just don't know the history.

I've followed this stuff from the beginning. The Gracies contradict themselves and don't always agree (e.g., Helio on Rickson's record). I place much more importance on hard data (official NHB/MMA fights) than "he said she said." Rickson fought generally weak and limited competition in MMA. He may have been the best at pure BJJ, but that doesn't always translate to being the best at MMA. If he had fought Sak, Ruas, Frank or Ken Shamrock, Bas, Igor V., etc., we'd have a better idea about how good he was. As it stands, all we can say is that he was undefeated but didn't fight much and didn't fight the best of his era.

Not even just Kimo, old past prime Royce managed to beat Sakuraba in the rematch. The Yakuza golden boy didn't look so amazing when he couldn't pull Royce's GI around. And Rickson was quite used to no-GI in MMA. Saku has no chance in the grappling department.

Also if we're gonna keep using the Royce fights then it's fair game to use Saku's loss against Ralek Gracie where he nearly had his arm snapped.

Is that the best you have? By that time Sak had taken horrific beatings from Arona, Wand (twice), Cro-Cop and other much larger fighters. He was Pride's sacrificial lamb. And Royce cheated and tested positive for steroids for that fight. The decision absolutely should have been overturned.

You have no idea what Rickson’s injury history is. Just stop it. Dude has been on a mat since he was in diapers.

Comparing Vitor and Romero just because they are both old? Really? On Vitor’s best day, he’s not half the athlete Romero is even at 41.

Difficult to say , Rickson is known as the crown jewel of the Gracie family , while Sakuraba was very unorthodox as a fighter and an excellent grappler that defeated his brothers

I'd of gone with Sakuraba by decision if he used his unique striking and takedown defence and if Rickson where to of used a Gi to fight , just like against Royce Saku would use the Gi against Rickson

However it wouldn't of surprised if Rickson won , Rickson was simply on a different level in terms on BJJ , he was strong , he would take positioning quick like a cat , it was insane how smooth and fluid his positioning transitioning was.

It’s nice to see someone who actually knows what they’re talking about.

You jabroni troll , Saku was wayyyy past his best years by the time he lost to Royce who tested positive for roids after the fight and losing to Ralek where Saku was basically ancient that had the mobility and movement of a geriatric zombie .....

"They literally threw out the weakest gracie."

Royler wouldnt have [physically] won the 1st UFCs, and perhaps Renzo too (not all at least)...

Renzo was better than Royce.
Its not that simple.

Would Renzo have eaten Kimo´s bomb, stayed composed and secured a sub? Very doubtful.

Hoyce´s heart and chin are highly underrated among fans these days.

Royce had bi
You could argue though in some respects Royce was actually better suited to fighting Sakuraba, he was used to being the smaller man and not being able to control his opponent, fighting off of his back until he had an opening.

Rickson tended to be much more a positional fighter and if he couldn't outwrestle Sakuraba I could see him actually being in more trouble.
Royce had bigger balls..no one can dispute that

Royce could have taken the biggest cocktail or TRT and HGH ever and he would still never be as physically and technically gifted as Rickson Gracie.

The fact that such a shitty version of Royce still got a win over him using only his grappling is pretty telling what would happen if the overrated Yakuza golden boy got tangled in Rickson's web of grandmaster proficiency.

Royce was far more past his prime at age 41 and fighting in a new, completely different era. And you want to use that as an excuse for Sakuraba? What a dummy.

As for the Ralek fight, Ralek is pretty much a pure BJJ grappler and that's how he beat and nearly snapped your idol's arm. Rickson would submit Saku any way he wanted. Now, before and forever.

Anyone who thinks Royce was more worn out and damaged than Sakuraba in 2007 is either a liar, and idiot or both. Sak had almost twice as many fights by that point and like I said, faced much larger killers like Arona, Cro-Cop, multiple fights with Wand, etc when those guys were in their prime. That's MUCH different than Royce facing bigger fighters with zero BJJ knowledge in 1994. Just one or 2 fights with the better guys Sak faced would've sent Royce into retirement.

And yet Royce still beat Sak with his primitive BJJ @ age 41, you don't even have the IQ level to comprehend what you're doing. You're proving my points for me. Royce being that bad and still beating Saku shows you what Rickson would have done to the Yakuza golden boy.

Sakuraba was on a 4 fight winning streak before the Royce rematch and then won 3 more fights after that. Royce was just a Vale Tudo grappler who had fought 4 times in 7 years before that and just had his skull bashed in by prime Matt Hughes.

I hope you're a troll. No one could project that much nor be that dimwitted....or could they?
