The Macedonians considered themselves Greeks.
took em less than a month
Keep sending over the money hanz schnitzel-face
Don’t bother reasoning with an idiot. What’s important is that academia has it right. Who cares what some semi illiterate redneck thinks?
Still lasted longer than France against the Axis and were already fully engaged in the Greco-Italian war (which the Greeks ‘won’). The Greeks fought honourably and with great courage during that conflict.
Oh wait you’re German, thanks for all the ships you had to give us recently. Thankfully for the Greeks the Germans have almost zero private commercial acumen when it comes to cyclical economics. Germans invested in brand new ships during the peak and almost their entire fleet went bankrupt. The new owners? Almost entirely all Greeks. Why buy new when the German will pay for it? Feels good sitting on the worlds biggest and most successful merchant fleet. But what to expect of a country that wiped out six million Jews for no reason? Germans are going to German. Greeks are going to Greek. I know what I’d rather be any day (and so does my wallet).
You’re right, but when they steal our history we don’t have to recognise or accept them.
Personally it doesn't even make a difference to me. As long as Pella is on our side of the border im a happy camper.
This I don't think they understand the situation they are in.
Greeks are some of the most delusional people that you can find worrying about the bullshit past when they have no future. it will be interesting once they default on the debt.
knew id get a bite with that.
Sorry but that s not true.
Athenians, Spartans, Beotians, etc. usually talked shit about one another but they all acknowledged eachother as true Greeks.
Now it is true that Macedonians had kind of a hybrid status of Greeks but slightly barbarian.
Oh and btw, for the Greeks the real "native" Greeks were a people called Pelasgos thar were assimilated into Greek society.
My sources : Herodote, Thucydides and Xenophon.
Am I misreading this, or are you bragging about Greeks being freeloaders?
Anyways I respect Greek identity.
Awesome history and culture.
Not surprised that so many itt don't understand much more than shopping at Wall-Mart.
Maybe it's not very related but I've seen (if I'm not wrong) in some article in Russian that tendencies or recent years is like that: something like that in 2013 or 2014 in Albanian capital there were 0 newborn babies (maybe male babies, I don't remember) with Albanian/traditional Albanian names (parents prefer to give names to their kids that sounds Western) and there were also mentioned that some Albanian Muslims are converting to Christianity (in Albania or in European countries when they immigrates there).
Plus, I'm not big specialist in Balkans but seems to me Albanians are not very hardcore Muslims, I think they elected in 2002 Orthodox Christian guy as president, if I'm not mistaken their current prime minister calls himself Agnostic (and he is from Christian family), current prime minister of Kosovo says stuff like this "Haradinaj does not consider himself as a Muslim, he declared "For generations my family members were Catholics. I do not know why I am Muslim. I've never been in a mosque, nor ask for anything else".", their previous president was a female (Jahjaga).
lol, literal muh dickery
Your own sources have passages where Athebiabs do not consider Spartans to be barbarians because of their apparent Dorian heritage.
There are most instances of Greeks referring to other Greeks as barbarians than any foreigner in the classical period.
We buying German ships at scrap prices is being a freeloader?
The German shipowners are bankrupt, they invested billions into an industry they will never understand and lost it all.
Now the German shipowners association is pushing for the EU (Germany) to increase the tax on Greek shipowners out of spite, despite the Germans having similar tax breaks at home. So we will move to Monaco, UK and Singapore, which will cost the EU as a whole since it loses its commercial fleet (Another example of Germans being unable to emotionally forecast, same as what happened in both world wars).
Are you still living in 2012? Greece is on the road to recovery and will exit the bailout program, likely with no need for credit.
Good for you, I hope the greeks recover. Have been to Kavala / Thassos last year. Unfortunately most greeks I have Seen were dirt poor.
Depends where you go. The economic condition is somewhat misleading since Greece has a giant black market economy since no one pays tax. So many “unemployed” are employed and many Greeks have money/wealth hidden somewhere (whether it’s under the mattress or in Swiss banks). It also depends on your social class (eg are you from a shipowning/political dynasty or an Albanian immigrant?).
But of course the situation is far worse compared to what it used to be, but we’ve hit the bottom and hopefully things will only get better.
