Wait is the guy Latino or not
Kerwin White, imo.
That's not a ducking thing
Uh what? It most certainly is. There's White Hispanic and White Non-Hispanic.
Oh well then was he referring to red blacks or yellow blacks
When I was thinking non-politician it was along the lines of President Neil Degrasse Tyson, and VP Bill Nye.
Sure there are. Here are a few examples...
Would you care to explain exactly how you define a white Hispanic racially speaking of course
I'm not sure if you're joking or not (I suck at detecting sarcasm) but you can look at the CDC's Fatal Injury Report (s) and Hispanic isn't listed as a race.
IT'S OK EVERYBODY, HE APOLOGIZED!!
I do not define it racially of course, because "Hispanic" IS NOT A RACE.
Hispanics are a group of people who share a certain common culture and heritage derived from that of Spain, generally by virtue of originating in countries that are former Spanish colonies.
Since Hispanic people can be on any race, it is entirely possible for a person to be both Hispanic and white. They are two overlapping categories.
Didn't you learn about sets and Venn diagrams in school?
One circle represents white people, the other circle represents Hispanics, and the people in the red area where they both meet are White Hispanics. Comprendes?
Of course you are correct. Hispanic is not a race. It is a cultural denomination.
The point of that post was to clarify that a person can be both Hispanic and white, the same way a person can be Hispanic and black, or Hispanic and Japanese, Hispanic and Naive American, or Hispanic and a a mix of all of the above.
The insistence of folks in the US in speaking about Hispanics and Latinos as if they were a race is a pet peeve of mine, because it is remarkably ignorant.
Ok so what makes him Hispanic then
Whats so hard to grasp about this? A white Hispanic is someone whos ethnicity is entirely or largely composed of peoples from Spain.
Spain is in Europe, Europeans are white ergo.....
hold on to your pannies for this shocker too
THERES EVEN BLACK PEOPLE IN HISPANIC COUNTRIES!
What makes him Hispanic? His name?
Besides his Spanish surname a google search tells me he is Cuban-American and grew up in Hialeah. I may be stereotyping a bit, but the odds are very good that his parents or grandparents migrated to Miami after the Cuban Revolution.
That makes him Hispanic.
Hes supposed to be cuban so why is this such a scooby doo mystery?
Might be stereotyping? White. Grew up in America. So let me ask his then: if he's Cuban what's the issue? Just the white part? That's a difficult spot. When does the white apply and when does the Hispanic
It's not. I hate this argument. It's only used to discriminate while complaining of discrimination
That's true but incomplete. There are also a ton of Europeans from other countries that emigrated to Latin America and became assimilated into Hispanic culture and after one or two generations become Hispanic for all intents and purposes.
Take my case for example. My grandfather brought his wife and kids from Italy to Peru in the 1950s. My father was 3 years old and he grew up here and for all intends and purposes he is Peruvian. The fact that he has to wear two coats of sunscreen and the next best thing to a burka when he goes fishing or he burns as red as a lobster is completely irrelevant to that point.
