Reminder Future UFC Star Mackenzie Dern Fights Tomorrow

That's because his second fight was in he UFC.

Cody Garbrandt's first five opponents.
Nobody. Nobody. Nobody. Nobody. Nobody.

Joanna's first six opponents.
Nobody. Nobody. Nobody. Nobody. Nobody. Nobody.

Look, if she was just some random MMA fighter, she wouldn't have this hype. But she's the greatest Female BJJ competitor in the world. That's a level of greatness that will certainly translate into MMA. Whether you're a bronze Judo medalist like Ronda, a silver Wrestling medalist like DC, when you be come one of the greatest at a ground skill, the chances of you doing well in MMA, is very high. And she's already doing well.

Derns opponents have been garbage, and while the 2 fighters you mention fought outside the UFC to start their careers, at least their opponents were respectable.

Cody Garbrandt pre-UFC:
1. was 2-1 when Cody fought him (though did go on to lose next 4)
2. was 2-1 and is currently 3-3 and fighting in Bellator
3. was 3-0 and is now 12-2. Maybe no name recognition but an outstanding record.
4. was 7-2 and is now 7-4 (no shame in his losses to guys like Garbrandt and Pettis)
5. was 5-2 and is now 6-5
So every single one of Garbrandt's non-ufc fights was against someone with a winning record and even though the ptsd of fighting No Love scared them, they aren't complete garbage.

Joanna pre-UFC:
1. was 0-0 and is now 7-4 and has beaten way better comp than Dern.
2. was 0-1-1 but currently is 6-4
3. was 4-1 and is currently 9-2 and fighting in Bellator
4. was 8-3 and retired at 10-4 (and her other losses came to the likes of 22-5 LaRosa and Julie Kedzie)
5. was 11-6 (with a loss to Aisling Daly and 2 losses to the opponent #4 above)
6. was 13-4 and now is 13-5 (JoannaJ retired her). Her 5 loses came were to JJ, Andrade, Alexis Davis, Frausto (who was 6-1 with that loss being to Tate) and the beautiful Gina Carano.

Mackenzie Dern pre-UFC:
1. Dern decisioned an 0-0 fighter who never fought again.
2. Dern missed weight and then beat 7-4 Montana Stewart who fought like an idiot.
3. Dern missed weight AGAIN and then decisioned a 1-0 opponent. Despite having side control or mount for almost the entire fight, Dern was unable to finish the fight.
4. Upcoming bout against 3-3 (those 3 wins coming against atrocious competition that's 3-12)

So Dern's early career is nothing like Lesnar's, Garbrandt's or JoannaJ's. Her third opponent is a step down from her second. Also we can't ignore Dern's tremendous weight problems.

Here's her weigh-in weights:
1. 116
2. 118.8 (Missed)
3. 120.0 (Missed)
4. 124.8

So she missed weight in 2 out of her first 3 fights (by a LOT). Also of concern is that her weight has consistantly gone up each and every fight (and she missed by more). The only reason she made weight for today's fight is because she went up a weight class. But it's not just that she sucks at weight cutting, I'm not sure she even tries to make weight. In none of her fights has she looked like she lowered her bodyfat % below "average fit chick" level. Crossfitters and fitness models make Dern look like she's carrying 10+ lbs of losable fat.

I expect Dern to win handily today (her opponent is not good, not good at all) but she's still unproven, has shown to be unprofessional, and I expect to get handled easily against decent competition. She was out muscled by every opponent she's faced and they were 115ers. She'll have even more difficultly against girls that train more than once/twice a week and girls that are naturally 125ers (Dern should have zero problem making 115 if she had any discipline - she's basically the female Hendricks).

Back in Feb (?) Dern said she'd be in the UFC in June-July (at 115) but after missing weight again in March she's moved up a weight class and is still fighting scrubs. She'll get into the UFC but it won't be because she earned it due to mma fights.

You mean like this?

And weight's not an issue anymore. She's a flyweight now.

Beating a nobody is worth talking about? For a future superstar?

Obviously, her BJJ credentials aren't transferring to MMA yet.

I'd let her sit on my face right now, but if she can't back it up in MMA she won't be a star at all. Paige & others proved that you need more than just good looks. Also high level BJJ alone doesn't translate to MMA success.

Why the hell do you'll always mention paige is she supposed to be ashamed that she lost to thug rose & karate hottie

She has some good wins in the ufc & was still a top 10 fighter at 115 before moving up

Nobody even expected her to make it as far as she has shes basically a overachiever

Dern is a bjj legend that happens to be pretty nobody is expecting her to be the next ronda or joanna but her hype is legit because of her accomplishments
