Martin Kampmann was a Danish kickboxing and Muay Thai amateur ]fighter out of Aarthus, Denmark. He then started training in submission wrestling and BJJ with Extreme Couture later on in life. He fought in many smaller organizations such as King of the Cage, Cage Warriors, European Vale Tudo and World Fighting Alliance. He compiled a 9-1 record while winning the Cage Warriors Middleweight Title in 2005 before moving to the UFC in 2006. His first match was against Crafton Wallace at UFC Fight Night 6, he would by RNC in the very first round. His second match was against unbeaten (9-0) Thiales Letes also another good prospect. Martin would face his toughest opponent yet, but would go on and win by unanimous decision. Martin would face numerous top ranked opponents over the years in the UFC and would consistently be in the top 10 at Middleweight from 2008-2012.

His list of notable wins included: Drew McFederies, Carlos Condit, Thiago Alves, Jake Ellenberger, and Jorge Rivera. Martin would also win two UFC Fight of the Nights, and 2 UFC Submisison of the Nights. He would end up retiring in 2016 with a (20-7) record. Martin was a very well rounded MMA fighter who garnered the respect of his peers with his "steely" determined approach in fighting while also being very humble. He currently plays professional poker in Las Vegas.

Martin Kampmann vs Carlos Condit (UFC Fight Night 18) (Sound a bit off track)

Martin Kampmann vs Brendan Seguin (King of the Cage: Warzone)

Dude was a beast back in his prime and a pleasure to watch. I still feel he clearly beat Shields and Sanchez.

I've been a fan of Kampmann since the Condit fight.

Most of his scraps were entertaining and he had a solid chin in his prime and he was tough as nails. He took some ridiculous bombs from Daley without going down.

If he got the decisions against Shields and Diego he would've had a 7 fight streak with high caliber opponents in his streak. He would've fought GSP no doubt with that resume.

Shields fight was close but the decision for Sanchez was a straight up robbery.

Agreed. I had him edging Shields but it could've gone either way.

The Sanchez decision was definitely a wtf moment

I remember Mcfedries fight, Kampmann was losing the fight until he subbed him with a side choke. Good stuff.
