As someone who used to have very long hair and often grows a big beard, the only thing it does it to needlessly hurt you when someone goes for a choke or head and arm control and his fingers rake and tear a bunch of hair.

Erick Silva is 1-5 in his past six fights, and at the age of 33 is not really a young prospect. More of a loser leaves town type of match.

Also, if a beard helps cushion 10% it's probably not a beard on his chin and most likely a dense bird nest.

He's 33 in Nazi years but he identifies as 23. AND, I think once he gets a little more experience he is headed straight to the top!
