rashad evans discusses the 52 blocks system

Is is just me? Or does this look alot like Win Chun with more lateral movement in terms of its attempts at trapping and blocking.

all of you guys hating.... all i gotta say is.... if this shit worked in prison, it sure as hell would work in the streets.

Very interesting and deff a different style... ill try to watch more vids.

Why would you practice 52 blocks when you could just take boxing.

Or Muay thai. Or Judo. Or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Or San Shou. Or TKD.

I could go on.

The only people who learn 52 blocks out of prison are inner city morons who want to get their 'rep' up.

I think the correct question to ask here is not whether "prison martial arts" are effective, but whether the style presented to us as "52 block" is A FAITHFUL REPRESENTATION of what is claimed to be "prison martial arts"

Anyways I had 60 bucks burning in my pocket to I bought to DVD documentary out of interest. I'll watch and report back :)

The way I see all martial arts is this: All martial arts start out extremely effective being developed in a combat situation. As time goes on the less they are used in their original situation the less effective and more diluted they become, until one day they end up as a McDojo. Sad, but that's life. It may just be 52 blocks is no different.

i would appreciate your input on it

I bet 52 blocks is more effective than most tkd in a street fight.

In TKD you get legit training from legit teachers. You do pad work, drills, and heavy bag rounds. And sparring.

There are none of that in 52 hand blocks, besides hitting poles with your elbows at 25% force with no footwork, or touch and go sparring.

i know we had a thread regarding 52 blocks and its validity, hopefully this gives some explanation between its theories and application and the motivation behind it.

just thought it would be interesting

if 52 was worth the hype, it would be making noise in k1 and pro boxing.

in this one i won;t say he looks world class; but the dude looks pretty smooth and what he is doing for the most part seems translatable to strreet type self def, i don't know if he can take shots, but what he was throwing seemed fairly clean.

an the clips of him sparring in karate type competitions looked pretty nice; its not full contact or anything but it showed fairly good timing/fluidity and tech..so i can't say its garbage based off what i saw.

here is another link of his other sparring/comp

now people will say these guys suck or whatnot; but the majority of us who aren't amateur or pro fighters or train w/them aren't "realistically" great ourselves, not hating on anyone.. just being honest. If we were that good we would be competing much like we say if 52 was eff or great they would be competing, so in that instance we are all in the same boat..

just cus we know striking well and have a good mind for observation or application, doesn't mean we are good or great strikers or martial artist. I can say this cause i have sparred high level female boxers, male boxers, karateka, kenpo guys and fairly accomplished muay thai kickboxing and jkd strikers; so im well aware of how good i am or am not, not to mention i have watched myself spar b4. Anyone who hasn't should; it will def be an eye opener, as u might feel like anderson silva..when ur much more rashad evans. In my case i felt like roy jones, when i was more of a manuel medina...lol

point being i think anything can be eff if trained hard, w/diff stylist and w/an open mind; this is no diff and if its a prison art or street art then that is enough, i train in "real" arts an can't compete at boxing or mma on any level, but i can hold my own on the street and in self def. An that is all i need, the chances of me coming across a k1 level guy a bjj blk belt or mma champ is slim to none; so just cus i can't compete w/them don't mean i can't fight or that im unskilled..same goes for these cats

rashad evans, zab judahs opinion>sherdoggers opinion.

I can't wait until someone starts fighting MMA with their style as "52 blocks."
