DIRK is so underrated his run in 2011 playoffs is as close as one man show since Hakeem in 94 and 95.

For a team that's had as much success as the Mavs over the last 16 or 17 years he's had ridiculously little help. Since Nash left we've only had 2 other guy's make the All Star team - Kidd and Josh Howard once each. When you think about winning a title, making another finals, 12 straight playoff appearances, 11 straight 50 win seasons (including one with 67 wins), etc - it's pretty remarkable

I really don't think many other players could carry teams like he has. There's no doubt that others being listed are better defenders, but I also don't think anyone aside from Duncan could've won as much as Dirk has with the supporting casts he's had

Great post I agree. Dirk has never had good supporting cast around him he's never had great 2nd fiddle to his batman. I think during some of his prime years were wasted by Avery Johnson he's was flat out garbage coach just awful.

Dirk gets a lot of euro prejudice. His rebounding during the playoffs was always respectable. He didn't just shoot but was able to draw a lot of fouls, too. 50% shooting isn't that special if you aren't shooting 3s or drawing fouls, which he hit at above a 90%+ clip some seasons. I will probably never see a legit 7 footer shoot as well as he did again in my lifetime.

He did it well enough all there is a whole generation of 7 footers that don't know they probably should be sitting their ass in the post. How many guys have a legit post game? You can count them on one hand.

I'm not so sure. I feel like that was probably the case up until he broke the 30K point barrier. Since then he seems to have gotten his just due. Most people have him top 20-25 all time which is right about where he should be. That puts him right alongside Malone, Barkley, and KG.

Most would have him in the 6-10 group, which is where he belongs IMO.

KAT has mad potential. Right there with Brow in terms of ability but his body may hold together better as well.

Also people forget (or seem to) KG's run in Minny. It was Dirk like without the ring (and obviously he left and Dirk stayed) but he probably had even less help. What he achieved in his physical prime was phenomenal.

Also I think people underestimate Rodman on offense. Could he get his own shot? Not even close but he fit into whatever scheme was being run whether Detroit or Chicago (did his job well at SA too), hit FTs and could finish as required.

    1. Duncan
    2. Malone (boring but that PnR with Stock was a thing of technical beauty
    3. McHale (generally ranked too low in this thread)
    4. Barkley
    5. KG
    6. Dirk
    7. Rodman
    8. CWebb
    9. Kemp
    10. I'd probably put Blake here because if his career ended this year he'd deserve top 10 status maybe higher

I guess you've got to give it to Duncan based on championships, longevity, consistency, two-way player, making his teammates better, etc. However, he played a whole lot of center in his career, probably would have played a lot more as a center earlier on in his career if the Spurs didn't already have David Robinson at the time. But once Robinson retired, which was pretty early in Duncan's career, it seems like he was their center a lot of the time.
