DRAFT GRADES
1ST ROUND - GRADE A
1(24) Gareon Conley CB Ohio State
Talented corner that will fit nicely into the secondary. #3 corner on the team that will probably take over slot duties and may move to full time starter if Smith or Amerson don't work out.
2ND ROUND - GRADE A
2(24) Obi Melifonwu S Connecticut
Wrecked the combine. Athletic, fast and strong but needs to play tougher. Can play at safety and corner. 6'4" 224 lbs and 4.40 40-time is perfect for covering tight ends. An Obi-Joseph duo at safety is going to be exciting.
3RD ROUND - GRADE A
3(24) Eddie Vanderdoes DT UCLA
Beastly. Didn't have a great year in his last season at UCLA due to recovery from ACL injury and playing through a high ankle sprain. Explains why he looked so fat at 340 lbs. Was awesome before the injury and seemed to regain his form at the Senior Bowl. Now at 302 lbs. Athletic for his size and explosive. One of the big steals of this draft. Will probably start.
4TH ROUND - GRADE B
4(23) David Sharpe OG/OT Florida
Decent O-line pickup. 6'6" 343 lbs enormous man but slow. Will need to develop but a nice long term investment for the o line if he works out.
5TH ROUND - GRADE C
5(24) Marquel Lee ILB Wake Forest
Reggie's worst pick of the draft, imo. 6-3, 240 lbs has nice size but not fast and his instincts are mediocre. He is everything that has been wrong with the Raider's LB position. Special teams and depth pick.
7TH ROUND - GRADE A
7(3) Shalom Luani S Washington State
Another excellent pick by Reggie. Shalom has nice coverage skills and hits hard. He is a perfect piece to the safety position. Will be a nice depth player
7TH ROUND - GRADE B
7(13) Jylan Ware OT Alabama State
Another long term offensive tackle pick by Reggie. Even more of a giant than David Sharpe 6'8" 295 lbs. Will need work but Reggie is preparing well for the future.
7TH ROUND - GRADE B-
7(24) Elijah Hood RB North Carolina
Wasn't too impressed with Elijah Hood. At 5'11" 232 lbs he has nice power but is not very fast or elusive. All of that may not matter since he now running behind an awesome offensive line.
7TH ROUND - GRADE B
7(26) Treyvon Hester DT Toledo
Decent long term investment at DT. Depth pick with rotational potential
OVERALL = B
Overall this was a very good draft. Definitely much better than last year and one of Reggie's best. The secondary has been filled with quality players, the DT is in much better shape and OT position is deep with future talent that'll continue to protect the team's most valuable player, Derek Carr. Only concern of course is still the LB position which means that Riley will return at MLB. Hopefully Jenkins will do well at WLB. Heeney James and Ball will hopefully pan out too.
