"Everybody's got a plan until they get punched in the face."
People have a lot of ideas about how to beat McGregor, but to get inside, push him up on the cage, take him down, dirty box etc., you have to close the distance. You have to pay the iron price to execute the plan. Most don't have the chin to do it.
You get it.
Conor has had trouble with one guy in the UFC, Nate Diaz. Nate not only has a chin (which we saw definitely get tagged), but the reach to avoid a good percentage of dangerous strikes as well while answering back on his own. These are tools that Eddie did not possess. Holloway was another guy whose being lanky enough got him to go to decision, IMO.
The Diaz chin argument/comparison is almost identical to why someone like Doo Ho Choi, another knockout artist, ran into problems with Cub... Cub ate bombs, and survived. What the fuck does a knockout artist do then, except try to rely on heart? Props for DHC for showing that heart at least, but it was the beginning of the end. Conor possesses both a reach advantage and KO power. That spells disaster for a guy who himself does not have at least the reach to hang back or the chin to absorb the punishment and find a way.
