Would Gus version from Jones fight defeat Rumble and DC? He visible declining after that beating from Jones... Maybe its motivation, maybe he took a lot of beating from Jones, maybe its injuries (he actually pulled of from rematch with Jones in 2014 and was replaced by DC), but his version from Rumble and even more from DC and last fights looked very bad. Could original version- Gus 2012- win with current Rumble and DC?

2012 Gustafsson would lose to 2017 Rumble. However, 2012 Gustafsson against 2014 Rumble would be a majority draw. 2014 Gustafsson against 2013 Cormier would end in a no contest (2015 Herb Dean declares the fight a no- contest because 2012 Cormier is unable to continue after an accidental eyepoke by 2014 Gustafsson).

No. Gus is just as good as he was back then. He just fought tougher guys now...I think it is also more about styles. Jones uses his reach and size advantage vs smaller guys, and Gus is just as big, so naturally he struggled with Gus. DC and Rumble use other strategies.

It is like Semmy. He was nearly unbeatable, but his toughest fight was vs Choi. Other guys could beat Choi with the right strategy, but for Semmy it would always have been a difficult fight..that is also probably why they never rematched.

    gus was ALWAYS overrated

    never forget:

    - best win is a washed up shogun and he didin´t finish like sonnen did in rd1

    - in his last fight some top 50 guy smoked him on the feet and made him panicwrestle to a boring decision

he won 1 round against JBJ.... that´s his biggest accomplishment

    end of story

now you have connor, gus is over

I don't think Gus has declined. He just hasn't improved.

Still one of the greatest fights I've witnessed, Jones vs Gustafsson.

I don't believe in this whole "oh, Alex from 2012 would beat Rumble from 2016" sort of shit.

Nope, Gustafsson is the same guy he was then. He's the truest example of an almost man, and a man with terrible fight IQ.

With different execution he could have won both Jones and Cormier bouts.

You havent seen that fight, have you?

That "beating" from Jones where he got hurt once in 25 minutes, didnt even fall, and recovered and kept fighting?

Go take a shower or something, calm yourself.

Except the version that fought DC had just been KOd in his previous fight (by Rumble). Hardly the same, and it showed in Gus` performance against DC.

Nope, but 2014 version of Gustafsson (before the injury) was the best LHW at the time and would have beaten Jones in the rematch.

You also cant really say anything about his shape in Rumble fight, that could have been any version of any LHW ever and the result could have easily been the same, thats just Rumble.

I don't know what you're talking about. I thought he did really well against DC. Gave DC one hell of a scare and it was a close fight.

Gus came within inches of winning against BOTH Jones and DC, Rumble smoked him, but DC smoked Rumble. Styles make fights, it should be clear by now.

True, but had Gus been at his best he should have beaten DC relatively easily. DC was lucky he got to face him when Gus had been brutally KOd in his previous fight and he had lost his confidence standing. And imo Gus still won the fight (2, 3 and 4).

I rate Gus but you are massively underselling DC. I think DC wasn't his usual self in that fight. DC's dirty boxing is very good.
