It looks like the sacred cow that no one in Washington wanted to touch it looks like Steve is looking at as he calls it an adjustment. It's is good that we are letting a corporate billionaire look at the costs of Social Security in order to find a way to get a corporate tax rate of 15 percent.

"This is an absolutely terrible idea, partially because it smells like a back-door way of cutting Social Security benefits. It needs to be nipped in the bud."

"According to the Associated Press, they’re toying with the idea of eliminating the payroll tax, which funds Social Security and part of Medicare, or cutting it drastically."

So he's going to give Americans a tax cut by gutting social security and medicare or drastically reduce funding of both great idea Trump.

Any morons continue to believe that Trump is going to keep any of his pledges he made to become president. Many and I do mean many Republicans hate the idea period end of story.

On a personal level im 37 years old and social security doesnt figure into my retirement plans at all . So a reduction in payroll taxes would likely benefit me personally. Im not a sociopath though and realize its a neccesary thing

Is it that foreign a concept for one to plan and save for their own retirement? Serious question.

Tell that to someone making 9.50 and hour in the midwest how they can put 10 percent of their money aside for their retirement. Or even better when the next market correction hits watch more then 40 percent of their retirement wiped out and watch US bailout the Steven Mnuchin types. I been though 3 Republican lead drops with my 401K burned up to the tune of over 40 percent. So even saving for retirement especially dumping it in that gambling casino called Wall Street.

His adjustments will not affect most people over 50 because they are a huge voting block right now and he and all Republicans know they would suffer massive loses if it did.

The most I see happening is more adjustments on age and am out to draw based on birth date.

If you are 30 now you might not be able to draw until 67 and fully at 72.

They may also bump medicare up on birth date also.

I'm 23, and with my current investment portfolio I'm completely excluding receiving any SS, so this isn't a surprise at all and wouldn't do much for me, but realistically what a joke.

Just another way my generation is gonna get screwed by the older generations that preach about how whiny we are and how hard they had it even though they had SS, pensions, great jobs out of HS, etc. and didn't care about the future generations. Selfish a-holes.

How about we drastically cut down on military spending and limit tax breaks for the rich? Seems a lot more effective then pretty much screwing the younger people over.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

These guys only want to control their payroll expenditures. It's the only business cost they can control.

There has been a 30 year war between CEOs their payroll expenses. CEOs are crushing it.

Getting rid of payroll taxes is the next step. They've already defeated the majority of major unions and have the American worker just happy to be employed, even if they're making less than their parents and grandparents did for the same exact work.

Yet many still believe that they have their best interest at heart. Never seen so many people sold such a horrible bag of goods in my life.

The problem is they plan on completely gutting it for future retirees they plan on selling a tax cut while providing Corporate interest their biggest tax break in history. They also want to do away with mortgage interest deduction so that by a vast majority hurts tons of people.

I wouldn't even say this is specific to Mnuchin or Trump.

This has been the real agenda of the elite everyone is worried about.

Convincing everyone they're worth shit and paying them nothing.

Yes but a majority of them would not have accepted the job that Mnuchin has been given because they know how massively unpopular an idea it is and would not participate in doing it. That's what makes Mnuchin a specially kind of person because he does not mind driving people into a ditch while he jumps out with bags full of cash.

Good, that shit will be long gone before I qualify after I paid out my whole life to support others on it.

See the X-Men movies.

Older gen didn't care about the future gens or the environment, they only cared about their own well being. So now my gen gets to throw our tax $$ at them while they leech off it and laugh off into the sunset while we have no real safety net for retirement.

What a great generation. Most selfish gen in American history imo.

Baby Boomers + Reagan = ruined America.

Those who support drastic cuts to social security are going to have to defend the fact that we will see high levels of poverty rates among the elderly.

Don't worry there are plenty from your generation who are going to work on Wall Street who cannot wait to become the next Steven Mnuchin and hang with Hollywood billionaires and LA bimbos while producing garbage movies.
