Puerto Rico: 35% without power, 20% without water, as FEMA cuts off food and water aid

Do you think FEMA and the government are the same thing or is FEMA an organization that the government uses to perform specific things

FEMA is part of the federal government, the specifics are up to debate.

If the local government isnt working then abolish it and place it under direct control of the federal government.

First off: good one re "which is nothing." Both childish and well-articulated.

Nothing in my professional history involves disaster relief. That isn't a prerequisite for criticizing objectively shitty disaster relief. You're trying to deflect the conversation, once again, because you cannot form a coherent position.

Just like you have no professional experience in economics, environmental regulation, or general public policy doesn't theoretically prevent you from having meaningful opinion on those subjects (your blistering stupidity does, though).
By what measure are you basing that? You disagree with fema so you must have some objective measure for why their stated mission is insufficient and why the pr government cannot do the rest of the work. Also why the fema is incorrect in it’s assessment of pr govt abilities

By what measure are you basing that?

The measure of people still without basic living needs.

Also why the fema is incorrect in it’s assessment of pr govt abilities

Because, no matter how "able" the local government is, even if it is incredibly able, getting living essential to persons lacking them will be more effective with the continued aid of the national government in providing those living essentials.

How the fuck are you not understanding this?

I’m trying to figure how you are able to see into the future and can already tell that the Puerto Rican government will not be able have a couple sing these tasks with the aid that they will still be getting just not from FEMA. Do you just not believe brown people can take care of themselves

Read, you fucking moron:

Puerto Rico's local government's may be FULLY CAPABLE of distributing water resources, but that does not negate that adding federal resources to their FULL CAPABILITY would undoubtedly shorten the time and resources necessary to provide access. It's not a question of whether Puerto Rico can do the job by itself, it's a question of whether Puerto Rico + the federal government can do the job quicker and more effectively without expecting a dilapidated market to distribute living essentials.

JFC, did you eat lead paint as a kid.

FEMA is not for that part of the mission. We know this because it’s ran by experts. If you disagree with the expert go work there and fix it. If not you’re talking out of your ass. They’d go faster if you went over and built some houses too

JFC, I'm getting rustled by your stupidity.

Emergency aid does, and has in all prior US natural disasters, required ensuring access to living essentials. That's part of the mission. Their job isn't done in any sense of the word until all persons who previously could reasonably survive can once again survive.

To be frank though.... this is kinda, well, FEMA's M.O. isn't it?

Incompetence resulting from intentional underfunding? Yes.

Straight up shirking of responsibilities? This would be a first in recent years.

Oh and you guys might want to google this again

They are Americans and yet we are fine with our territories living like they are third world countries. Here is a great place to spend some of that 700 billion of our military budget. Invest in infrastructure for our own people. Show them that they truly are Americans.

Again, what was the % of the population who had access to power and water pre-hurricane? Not sure if the article is referencing Prepa customers or Puerto rico as a whole

So turns out FEMA didn’t say they were done. Will await the Trotsky spin

But as public concerns mounted over FEMA's plans following NPR's report, the agency released a new statement. While reiterating its belief that emergency food and water supplies were no longer needed on the island, it said that FEMA would "continue to support the Government of Puerto Rico to meet the needs they identify."

Spokesman Booher said one thing that had not changed was FEMA's plan to end the shipment of new food and water supplies to Puerto Rico. He said the agency is confident it has enough of a stockpile there already to meet the need that remains. If supplies run out, he said FEMA would reconsider purchasing more. He did not say when the agency would finalize its plan to hand the remaining supplies over to the Puerto Rican government.

Do you not think its the mission of government to ensure a minimal quality of life to its citizens?

You guys act not having running water is the end of the world and it's the emergency services to provide them with it.

Plenty of people in the US don't have running water for many reasons.

It's not the job of the emergency services to fix everything even everything just like it was before. Then espicaly not to fix it better then it was before.

My mistake it is totally normal for 20% of the population to be without water and 35% to be without power. Nothing to see here, we shouldn't be worried about our fellow countrymen. Standing on the sidelines is a much better option than wanting our government to help its people.

The real problem is it's not the job of the emergency funds to fix the problem.

The government has plenty of other funds and organazion to do just that .

The Puerto Rico does not have the money to help its people. The US government has made no moves to help the people up to this point. The emergency funds have been the only help and citizens of this country are still suffering.
