Project Veritas posts "Deep State Unmasked," part 1

Recently, Project Veritas founder James O'Keefe announced a new series in which he would "unmask the Deep State." Today, he made good on that promise and released a video of a State Department employee admitting to a variety of nefarious activities. For those who don't know, Project Veritas (and, by extension, James O'Keefe) is known for using undercover reporters and hidden cameras to expose hidden corruption/misdeeds, with past projects focusing on voter fraud, media bias, labor unions, border security, and other instances of fraud/corruption.

Today, O'Keefe released a video of a State Department employee, Stuart Karaffa, who, among other things, admitted to using his position to "resist everything" President Trump does at "[e]very level" of Trump's State Department, with a stated goal of "fuck[ing] shit up” for Trump. Mr. Karaffa, an official member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), also admitted to abusing his office/authority/work time in order to conduct political activities on behalf of DSA (a violation of the Hatch Act). Mr. Karaffa explained that he was "careful" not to "leave a paper trail" exposing his crimes/misdeeds, but that he was not worried because "it's impossible to fire federal employees.”

Deep State Unmasked: State Department on Hidden Cam, “Resist Everything,” “I Have Nothing to Lose”

September 18, 2018

UPDATE: 2:22 PM | A Department of State spokesperson issued the following response to an inquiry from The Epoch Times:

“I can confirm Stuart Karaffa is a Management and Program Analyst with the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations.
We take seriously any allegation of a violation of the Hatch Act and financial disclosure rules and are closely reviewing this matter.
This is a personnel matter that we cannot comment on further at this time.”

(Washington DC) Today, Project Veritas released the first installment in an undercover videoinvestigation series unmasking the deep state. This video features a State Department employee, Stuart Karaffa, engaged in radical socialist political activity on the taxpayer’s dime, while advocating for resistance to official government policies. In addition to being a State Department employee Stuart Karaffa is also a ranking member of the Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America (Metro DC DSA.)

Metro DC DSA is a socialist group that works to advance progressive causes in the metropolitan DC area.

Socialist Activism at the State Department
Mr. Karaffa’s loyalties seem to be with DSA, not with his employer.

Karaffa told an undercover Project Veritas journalist that he performs DSA activism while at work for the State Department. He explained that he drafts DSA communications while on the job at State Department:

“… I’m careful about it. I don’t leave a paper trail, like I leave emails, and like any press s**t that comes up I leave that until after 5:30. But as soon as 5:31 hits, got my like draft messages ready to send out.”

Karaffa also admits that on behalf of DSA he monitors Virginia political news online while at work:

“You could put two and two together probably. With like web traffic…. So with web traffic, I mean I could make the case before a court of law that- I’m going to the Virginia sort of, campaign finance website- that I’m just interested in what people are doing politically. But if they also go and look at like DSA minutes and like Officer positions they’ll be like, ‘that’s weird, you were the co-chair of the electoral caucus, and you spent three hours on a Virginia campaign finance website.'”

Insufficient Oversight
Karaffa does not believe that he will be caught and punished by the appropriate authorities, saying, “Maybe someday I’ll go to board of elections jail, probably not.”

Karaffa does not seem to be concerned about disciplinary action from the State Department: “I have nothing to lose. It’s impossible to fire federal employees.” When asked if his supervisor at the State Department knows about his activism, Karaffa reveals that “nobody knows” about it.

Some government employees are required to regularly submit disclosure forms to help management identify any potential conflicts of interest that may interfere with job responsibilities. Despite disclosing his political activities and officer positions on his financial disclosure form, Karaffa alleges that:

“… somebody just rubber stamps [the form] and it goes forward… I don’t know if [the ethics officer is] all there. He’s so checked out…”

Resistance
In one exchange, Karaffa’s attitude towards the current administration’s official policies appears to conflict with his duty to be impartial as a State Department employee. Karaffa says:

“Resist everything… Every level. F**k sh*t up.”

Stuart Karaffa is just the first federal government employee that Project Veritas has recorded in an undercover series unmasking the deep state.

“We’ve heard a lot about the Deep State; holdovers from the previous administration resisting change or nameless and faceless bureaucrats slowing things down or leaking secrets in an effort to undermine this administration,” said Project Veritas President James O’Keefe. “What is truly striking is their boldness, they are not afraid. They are even boastful about a warped reality, where they won’t get caught and can’t get fired even if they did.”

More deep state investigation reports will be released soon.

As usual, Project Veritas / Mr. O'Keefe will release several installments in this "series." They will presumably follow the same format of using hidden cameras and undercover reporters to catch bureaucrats admitting to illegal/nefarious activities.

What do you think? Should Stuart Karaffa be penalized? If so, what should happen to him? Is he just a "bad apple," or is he part of a larger web of bureaucrats abusing their authority for political purposes? Discuss.

EDIT: Project Veritas posts "Deep State Unmasked," part 2

Project Veritas has released the second installment of its "Unmasking the Deep State" series. This video features a DOJ paralegal, Allison Hrabar, reportedly using government owned software and computers to push a socialist agenda (probably another violation of the Hatch Act, among other laws). This video also features Jessica Schubel, the former Chief of Staff for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services during the last Obama administration. Both Schubel and Hrabar make admissions revealing that federal employees are using their positions in the government to resist or slow the Trump administration's policies, some breaking laws in the process.

Drip, drip, drip... it's all coming out. Here's the video:

Clearly our federal government is infested with these disgusting human cockroaches. How can we have confidence in our institutions when they've been stacked full of Socialist activists? Congress seriously needs to fumigate the federal civil service.

EDIT: Project Veritas posts "Deep State Unmasked," part 3
Here's another one. How many "bad apples" are there?

EDIT: A highlight reel from the first week of Project Veritas' Deep State Unmasked series.

Stay on topic. If you wish to talk about Project Veritas's
mendacious history, go ahead, but cite evidence. Don't just rip off empty posts saying "fake news". Cite evidence substantiating why they are unreliable. Otherwise, address the topic and content of the OP.

James O'Keefe and Project Veritas is know for out and out lying, making shit up, deliberately misleading edited videos that bear no resemblance to actual events.

Considering his history of distortion, there is no way I am going to believe him here.

Just curious, but, do you apply that consideration to the NYT, CNN, ABCNews, NBCNews, etc?
All have a history of distorting the truth.

I never heard of the dude or this Veritas group.
I just wish they would give their operations better names. Project Veritas? Since when are females known to be truthful.
That dude needs a knew propaganda operation.

Operation Paukenschlag
Project Abwherlschaft
Operation deep Blitzkrieg

Those would get people interested. But Project Veritas sounds like a new Fashion show on the Lifetime channel.

Those news orgs are not the same . All large news orgs will occasionally makes mistakes, what matters is whether on balance they are reliable. O'Keefe hasn't a large body of honest work. He is a smear merchant, that's his modus operandi.

I don't know much about Project Veritas, so I can't personally comment as to their veracity.

But if what is being reported is true about Karaffa, they should give this man a raise. "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing".:)

The problem as I see it is, everybody has an angle, and nobody really knows what's true, semi-true or flat out false in today's so-called news media.
The days of honest journalism where the goal was the truth are long fucking gone, replaced with an endless cycle of propaganda for rubes.
Morrow, Cronkite etc are all spinning like rotisseries in their graves.

I disagree. There is a difference between how Liberals and Conservatives regard news. Liberals care more about the truth, Conservatives care more about power. If the media hurts Conservative power, it is treated as an enemy. If Conservatives really cared about media bias, they would have sought out the most neutral outlets, not flocked to the sources that were the most flattering to their personal bias.

James O keefe is a felon who has been caught red handed trying to sting people, yet the rubes believe.

Yeah that guy is an idiot and should lose his job. But this interview alone isn't necessarily proof of a deep state. The deep state consists of much higher level officials. Not some low level federal employee who sits at a computer doing nothing all day.

But what's with all the people saying it's fake? There's some really weird people posting in this sub-forum.

  1. The "Deep State" consists of the federal bureaucracy, more specifically the civil servants who are "career employees" within their respective agencies. These people remain across various administrations, and they cannot be easily fired. These can be high ranking people (e.g. Rod Rosenstein), but they can be low ranking people too. The point is, they are acting in defiance of the President, i.e., their lawful boss, and the People's elected representative.
  2. I don't know how high up Mr. Karaffa is, but having any position in the State Department puts him in a position of government authority, and gives him access to information that the general public can't access.
  3. There are numerous examples of "Deep State" actors defying the will of the President. I think Congress should crack down on this hard, and the Courts should be equally skeptical of any self-serving agency actions.
  4. The far Left posters on this forum are in outright denial. It was always bad, but it got worse after the 2016 election.

Did you skip all of Constitutional law? You realize that various federal agencies are tasked with specific duties and are not obliged to follow or agree with the President at all times?

This is your proof of a deep state? That people in the federal government don't abandon their (often sworn) duties in order to appease the president?

This is the same guy who made the big scoop of an out of the loop CNN weather guy saying the Russian investigation was probably BS before about 20 big names got indicted.

Went from hero to zero in a short space of time but rightly so.
