Pro-wrestling shoots? Works turned shoot, shoots in a worked federation, etc.

So, did Takada really break Vader's arm? I never watch Takada matches because his submission-work is so sloppy.

I like clean, explosive, creative and fundamentally sound technique in my shoot-style wrestling. Plus, Takada was always no-selling perfectly applied submission holds and then coming back with sloppy ones, which ruined the matches for me.

So, I don't know what happened with Takada and Vader cause I just don't like watching Takada's shoot-style stuff.

Yea, supposedly Takada hurt Vader real bad in a shoot-style fight that got real stiff and Vader had his arm in a sling for a couple of weeks. Let me go back to this later.

Okay, I exaggerated. Backlund-Takada was good and I watched it recently.

Jim Cornette vs. Santino Marella. This is the slap that got Jim Cornette fired from WWE in 2005. Santino was an indie guy who was brought to the OVW tapings to be a plant in the crowd and act scared of the Boogey Man gimmick, played by Marty "Liar" Wright. Instead of acting scared, Santino laughed and screwed up the whole angle. Cornette was naturally pissed and went backstage and ordered Santino to come in. He cut a promo on Santino and started slapping him over a dozen times. Santino did nothing, smartly knowing that if he retaliated, his WWE career would be history. He did complain to WWE, and Cornette was then fired. We love Cornette, but I would've fired him too if he had done that. Cornette was very lucky, Santino (who has a shooter background) could've kicked Cornette's ass all over the state of Ohio man.

I've said it numerous times, the greatest thing Santino ever did was get smacked by James E. Cornette.

Bubba Ray Dudley smacked the taste out of Rob Conway's mouth when Conway said the dumbest thing a rookie can say to a vet: "Why were you working so stiff out there?"

Wow some great stuff

Anything involving the NA Outlaws or Brian Christopher... both look like they would have stories to tell

We got the great Meng/Haku stuff. Where is the Harley Race stuff?

Harley is an all-time great and one of my absolute favorites. I know that Dory Funk Jr said Harley was one of the toughest men he ever saw. I imagine Harley wasn't so much of a hooker/shooter as being tougher than nails. (Kind of like Johnny Valentine, who Lou Thesz said was a tough bastard.)

In his book, Harley tells of an incident involving Ken McElroy when he was in his younger days. For those who don't know, Ken McElroy was a guy who basically owned an entire town in Missouri via intimidation, running several illegal businesses, commiting rape on a regular basis with many underaged girls, stealing whatever he wanted, etc etc etc. Eventually the people of the town he lived in had enough and they killed him, and despite there being between 40 and 60 witnesses no one was ever charged or arrested.

Anyway, in his book Harley alleges that McElroy started off as a bar bully, and just decided to pick a fight with Harley who knocked him down with a left hand and McElroy decided to leave rather than pursue a fight. There are a lot of stories of Harley dropping guys in bar fights, vouched for by guys like Larry Hennig and Baron Von Raschke.

Harley went to wrestle Jerry Lawler in Memphis in the 70's and Lawler was so scared shitless of him that he refused to enter the ring until Harley passed word through the referee to Lawler that he was safe.

Foley once said Harley had a quote, "If I hit him with the left hand and he's still standing, I will walk around him to see whats holding him up."

Here's a Harley intimidation story.

Harley was managing Vader in WCW in 92 and they were doing a house show in Baltimore. Foley was working with Rick Steiner. Anywhoo, during the match they did a spot where Foley hit the post outside and was busted open hardway. The old Maryland State Athletic Commission used to pick up the hospital bill for anything like that if it happened inside the ring.

After the match the ringside doctor appointed comes to the back, and he was a regular at the WCW shows in Baltimore and could never remember Mick's name and always called him Mike. So he goes to the back where he sees Mick and Harley and says, "Gee Mike its too bad you did that outside or we'd gladly pay for you to get fixed up."

Harley in his gravely voice then replies, "I saw it, and it was a headbutt IN the ring."

The doctor then says, "Oh come on now Harley we know what happened here."

Harley then responds, "It was a headbutt, IN the ring."

The doctor then escorted Foley to the nearest hospital where he was stitched up on the dollar of the Maryland State Athletic Commission.

- Wataru Sakata v. Akira Maeda. Sakata was fighting for Rings and had just lost to Gracie in under 3 or 4 mins and when he was being interviewed backstage, Maeda saw Sakata and decided to kick his ass for not fighting with a "samurai" spirit. Maeda gave him a good 1 min or so beating on live tv. I posted this video years ago, here's a link (link is good but ads on page are NSFW): http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f7/akira-maeda-heros-pro-wrestlinf-fame-kicks-crap-out-student-739985/

maeda really wasnt a dick, but if you fucked up, you were asking for it, he demands results

heard Harley also beat the fuck out of some body Builder at a bar, he also beat polio and threatened to kill it

He was/is a dick, alright. Just look at his UWF antics or what he did to Tamura after the Tokoro fight.

Amazing grappler, obviously, clearly a great teacher as well.

But, apparently not a nice guy either.

I'm not sure if Fujiwara-Maeda #1 was a work or a shoot, but I can see it being a shoot, with Fujiwara trying some slick and flashy standing submission transitions and Maeda--apparently--not playing along, forcing Fujiwara to resort to straight amateur wrestling doubles and singles to take control. I'm not sure though.

But, Fujiwara WAS definitely brought in as something of an enforcer that Maeda wouldn't be able to just refuse to put over.

i really think the guy was misunderstood, if you went in and did your job you were fine, if you dogged it he wanst going to have any of it

Back then, there were two men in the business you should NEVER EVER fuck with, and that was King Harley Race and Stu Hart. Harley would just straight up beat your ass, while Hart would shake your hand, and make you cry like an infant.

Well, whoever you are going to blame for it, friction has followed him throughout his career. From what I understand, much of his refusal to job that necessitated the program with Fujiwara was simply based on his estimation of his own level of shooting skill. From what I understand, he was matched with Andre for similar reasons.

Oh yeah, and Maeda kneed a man in the nether regions.

and andre was a drunk, lets not forget andre was not a angel, and backed down from much smaller dudes than him, i.e. bad news brown

For sure. And it sounds like, if the story is true, Andre was saying some racist crap on top of all of it.

Hard to judge, in Japanese pro-wrestling, who is being a jerk and who is just standing up for himself.

Kamala went to get his gun after andre dropped an N-Bomb on him
