Sometimes after long sweaty runs I'll end up a little puffier that night or the next day because my body is storing water.

Anyone have advice on how to avoid this?

I've looked it up and it's fairly common. It seems like for some people are simply more vulnerable to this. There's also avoiding too much sodium and staying hydrated throughout the day.. Anything else?

thanks in advance

How do you know it's water and not blood transporting oxygen to muscles and removing byproducts of exercise?

It sounds to me like an allergic reaction.

And I'm a doctor, so I would know.

I'd guess it has something to do with carb timing. If I don't eat carbs for a few consecutive meals and then I eat a significant amount, I become water retented.

Yeah- post workout nutrition could possibly cause this, but the direct effects of exercise flat cannot- you deplete glycogen and water during a run, you don't gather it. It's also possible that OP just has some weird ass body dysmorphia
