First Teaser Trailer for POWER RANGERS Officially Released

The Rangers are back. The first trailer for the upcoming Power Rangers reboot has dropped ahead of the Lionsgate film's panel at New York Comic Con Saturday.

It's the first footage of Zack, Trini, Jason, Kimberly and Billy in action, showing that in the reboot, they are a group of troubled teens who discover something mysterious after they attend Saturday school, where they've been sent for presumably getting in trouble.

Among their newfound powers: super strength and jumping abilities. But the villainous Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) takes notice, remarking, "I've killed rangers before."

The film stars RJ Cyler, Becky G., Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery — as well as and Bryan Cranston as Zordon. Power Rangers, directed by Dean Israelite, is set for a March 24 release.

The official Power Rangers Twitter account announced the news Thursday.

In the original TV show, Alpha 5 had almost a sibling-like relationship with the Rangers and known for shouting, "Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi" — both when the robot is happy or upset.

Hader joins a cast that also includes Elizabeth Banks as the villain Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston as playing Zordon. The Rangers are being played by RJ Cyler, Becky G., Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery. Power Rangers, from director Dean Israelite is set for a March 24, 2017 release.

Bryan Cranston Cast as Zordon in POWER RANGERS Movie

Bryan Cranston has joined Power Rangers, playing galactic sage Zordon in Lionsgate's big screen take on the 1990s kids television show.

Dean Israelite, who helmed the time-travel found-footage movie Project Almanac, is directing the project. Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (The Last Witch Hunter, the upcoming Gods of Egypt) wrote the script.

A quintet of relative newcomers — RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery — are playing the teens who, infused with powers, form a colorful team who must stop the world from being conquered. Elizabeth Banks also will appear in the film, playing the classic Power Ranger character Rita Repulsa, an alien witch who has designs on the planet.

Cranston, known for his starring role on AMC's hit series Breaking Bad, was most recently seen in Trumbo. His upcoming films include comedy Why Him? opposite James Franco, The Masterpiece (which is directed by Franco) and Broad Green’s crime drama The Infiltrator.

Lionsgate Could Possibly Make Up to Seven More POWER RANGERS Movies

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said the studio may make as many as seven more Power Rangers movies, underlining the company’s bullishness over the upcoming film.

“We are really, really excited about the Power Rangers movie,” Feltheimer said during a conference call Thursday with analysts. “We could see doing five or six or seven.”

The CEO cited the positive reaction to the costume reveal as evidence of audience interest. The suits consist of translucent armor that crystallizes around the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ bodies.

The studio has tapped Dean Israelite to direct the film and has cast five young actors to star — Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger. Elizabeth Banks will play the evil alien witch Rita Repulsa.

Power Rangers will hits theaters on March 24. The story reimagines the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids given extraterrestrial powers who unite to save the world.

First Look at the New Suits from POWER RANGERS Movie

When the Power Rangers revival morphs into theaters (March 24, 2017), the five teenagers with attitude won’t be wearing the original series’ campy costumes to battle Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks). Instead, the new cast — singer Becky G as Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger Jason, Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger Kimberly, and RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger Billy — will don translucent extraterrestrial armor that crystallizes around their bodies.

The sartorial update may look radical, but the outfits are visual throwbacks to the franchise’s long-running mythology. “The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) says. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”

The spandex-free makeover also helps set the film apart from other big-screen franchises. “It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume,” production designer Andrew Menzies (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) admits. “Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.” Fans like the Yellow Ranger herself. “It’s the coolest costume ever,” Becky G says. “I’m gonna wear it for Halloween for, like, five years.”

First Official Look at Elizabeth Bank's Rita Repulsa in POWER RANGERS

It’s time for Elizabeth Banks to conquer Earth — as Rita Repulsa, that is. The actress stars as the iconic monster-unleashing villain in the upcoming reboot of the small-screen franchise about five teens with attitude and abilities to round up alien menaces.

Unlike her ’90s-era counterpart, Banks’ Rita sports lighter, sleeker headgear, including gold accents and a green rope entwined around her ponytail. “It’s definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa,” Banks tells PEOPLE. “We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers.”

First Official Look at the Main Cast in POWER RANGERS Movie

EW has your first look at pop star Becky G, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Naomi Scott, Ludi Lin, and Dacre Montgomery as Trini, Billy, Kimberly, Zack, and Jason, respectively for the new Power Rangers movie.

While the roster might sound familiar, director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) told EW that he wanted this superhero story to reflect the lives of teens today. The new Power Rangers is a coming of age story for these “disenfranchised and disparate” high schoolers, who are not friends when the new story begins.

“From the very beginning, diversity was a very important part of the whole process,” he said. “We switched all of the races around, but we made sure that the essence of each of those characters are who they were in the original show, and this really will be an origin story of those characters.”

The Rangers’ suits will also be getting a update as well, thanks to Weta Workshop of Lord of the Rings fame, who fabricated the costumes. Israelite wanted the costume to be immediately recognizable as belonging to the Power Rangers, while give them a “really modern, edgy, badass, aspirational quality.”

“We’ve really pushed ourselves to make them feel different from any other superhero costume that’s out there,” Israelite said. “One key that’s different to the Power Ranger suits is that they’re not really suits that people get into. They’re suits that morph onto our kids, so they already have this almost metaphysical quality to them.”

And the Rangers will need those suits if they’re going to stand a chance against Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa, who from the sounds of it, lives up to her insane legacy.

“It’s very exciting that we got [Banks], and I think what she loves is the opportunity to really embrace the insanity and deliciousness of Rita Repulsa in terms of how weird and wonderful that character was, and really dive into and consume that character,” Israelite said. “You should always be off-balance when you’re watching her. Is she insane? Is she totally calculated? Does she know what she’s doing? Elizabeth can toe that line really well.”

Lionsgate Moves POWER RANGERS Release Date to March 24, 2017

Lionsgate has moved back the releases of two of its key franchises — its first Power Rangers movie and its fourth and final Divergent film.

Power Rangers will move back two months from Jan. 13, 2017, to March 24, 2017, placing it in the potentially lucrative spring break period. That date had been occupied by The Divergent Series: Ascendant, so the Shailene Woodley sci-fier will also move back two months to June 9, 2017 — giving the last film in the series a summer playdate.

It’s the second time that Power Rangers movie has been moved back. Its original release date of July 22, 2016, was shifted back six months earlier this year to the January slot.

Lionsgate and Saban Brands announced the Power Rangers project in 2014. The studio has tapped Dean Israelite to direct and cast five young actors to star — Becky G. as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger.

Becky Gomez Cast as the Yellow Ranger in POWER RANGERS

The core team of Power Rangers, the 2017 movie reboot of the property, is complete, with Becky Gomez cast as the Yellow Ranger. The singer-songwriter and actress has only a handful of credits, most recently appearing on the hit series Empire. The casting announcement, like those before it, was made on the official Power Rangers instagram account.

That completes the casting of the core team, if you follow just the original colors. The casting follows RJ Cyler cast as the Blue Ranger last Friday, Ludi Lin being cast as the Black Ranger, Dacre Montgomery cast as the Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger.

The actress also tweeted out her excitement, saying, "my favorite color is yellow. It's like it was meant to be. I am a Power Ranger." adding a yellow heart to the second tweet.

According to an earlier report, Lionsgate's Power Rangers film will follow the events of Power Rangers Dino Charge, the most recent version of the television show; the Dino Charge characters will appear in the opening sequence. Additionally, the film will shoot in Vancouver from January to April in 2016 and feature Scorpina, the ruthless and dangerous minion of Rita Repulsa, as an antagonist. Directed by Dean Israelite, Power Rangers morphs into theaters Jan. 13, 2017.

POWER RANGERS Will Use Names of the Original Characters

Earlier today, Saban Entertainment announced the fifth and final member of the Power Rangers. We now know the team is Becky Gomez as the Yellow Ranger, R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger.

Several days ago, a report claimed that the new Power Rangers would not use the names of the original characters -- Trini, Billy, Zack, Jason and Kimberly, but Saban tweeted those very names today. Comicbook.com reached out to Saban and they confirmed to the site that those are in fact the names that will be used in the film.

Saban Entertainment tweeted: "IT'S MORPHIN TIME, Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Billy & Trini! #PowerRangersMovie, coming 2017!"

Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is directing based on a screenplay written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (Fringe). Power Rangers will begin filming in January 2016 and is scheduled for release on January 13, 2017.

The team for the 2017 Power Rangers film continues to build, this time adding the Blue Ranger to the roster. They once again revealed the casting over social media, with RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) joining the cast and ready to don some blue threads.

According to an earlier report, Lionsgate's Power Rangers film will follow the events of Power Rangers Dino Charge, the most recent version of the television show; the Dino Charge characters will appear in the opening sequence. Update: October 22, 2015

Ludi Lin Cast as the Black Ranger in POWER RANGERS Movie

Just two days after Lionsgate's Power Rangers found its Red Ranger in newcomer Dacre Montgomery, the studio has announced yet another main character. The official Power Rangers Instagram page revealed today that Ludi Lin has signed on as Zack, the Black Ranger. Naomi Scott signed on earlier this month to play the Pink Ranger. Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is directing from a script by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Production is scheduled to begin in January 2016.

Just as October was kicking off, a report surfaced that young actors like Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (Chasing Life) and Brian "Sene" Marc have tried out for the Black Ranger role in Power Rangers, but Ludi Lin's name wasn't mentioned in that report. It's worth noting that Dacre Montgomery also wasn't listed as a possible candidate for the Red Ranger, but he ended up beating out the other candidates.

Another report from August revealed that the Black Ranger, Zack, is "the life of the party" who has no trouble attracting the opposite sex. Zack is also said to be a great athlete, but he doesn't play any sports because he doesn't want to be part of a team. Even though Zack is incredibly popular, he is hiding the fact that he lives with his single mother in a trailer park, which makes him feel inferior to everyone else at his school. Zack and the rest of the Rangers are all said to be 17 years old.

Lin only has a handful of credits to his name, appearing in a number of short films, an episode of Netflix's Marco Polo and a role as Wind Magician in the upcoming movie Monster Hunt.

Dacre Montgomery Cast as the Red Ranger in POWER RANGERS

Lionsgate and Saban Entertainment have just announced that newcomer Dacre Montgomery will be the one who leads the new generation of Power Rangers into battle as Jason Lee Scott a.k.a. the Red Ranger in the upcoming Dean Israelite-directed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot. He'll likely harness the "Tyrannosaurus" dinozord powers, which were previously used by original series star Austin St. John.

The new Jason, like all of the other Rangers, will be an updated version of the original (read HERE for the character description). Montgomery has beaten out the likes of K.J. Apa (Shortland Street), Mitchell Hope (The Descendants), and Austin Butler (The Shannara Chronicles), who were all slightly more established young talents rumored to be up for the part. He now joins Naomi Scott (The Martian), who was previously announced as the Pink Ranger.

Not much is known about Montgomery, but considering Naomi Scott is 22, he's probably around the same age. His past credits include a short titled Betrand The Terrible & a TV movie titled Family Tree Pilot Trailer.

POWER RANGERS Villains, Timeline, Opening Scene Revealed

According to Collider, director Dean Israelite's Power Rangers movie won't be focused on mining old property, but rather continuing the story told in the long-running television show. In fact, it's looking like the movie will be wholly set after the events of the current TV iteration, Power Rangers Dino Charge. And since the site is hearing that Dino Charge characters factor into the movie's opening, perhaps it will serve as a hand-off of the franchise to the new super-suited team.

Collider also learned that Power Rangers is expected to shoot in Vancouver from January to April of next year, which is the earliest that fans will be able to get a glimpse of what the final film might just look like. Keep in mind that whatever set photos inevitably leak, the site has learned that Power Rangers will mix location work with quite a bit of green screen, so the fully polished version is going to differ significantly from any amateur long-lens shots.

The site also learned that the movie will open with a huge battle scene. It seems that in Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz's script, Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd will not be the main antagonists. As loyal fans of the series know, both of those villains were among the evil forces purified by Zordon's energy wave (or Z-wave) that spread peace throughout the universe. However, not all adversaries were neutralized. There's even one major villain from the early days of the series who promised she would return, but never did, prompting people to assume that she was destroyed or turned good by the Z-wave.

Sources tell Collider that Scorpina, the ruthless and dangerous minion of Rita, has returned to plague the Rangers once more. And it seems she's brought an army, which she uses to battle the Power Rangers and their robot Megazords in the epic opening battle scene. The Rangers (presumably the Dino Charge team at this point) are protecting the Morphin Grid, an energy field that provides power to every generation of Rangers. This energy grid not only lets the Rangers borrow its power to morph into their super versions, it gives them access to past, present, and future Ranger memories so that they can glimpse other Rangers and glean strategies from battles.

Naomi Scott Cast as the Pink Ranger in POWER RANGERS Movie

Naomi Scott will suit up for the new Power Rangers movie. Scott will take on the role of the Pink Ranger in the action film, which is directed by Project Almanac helmer Dean Israelite. The announcement was made via the Power Rangers movie official Instagram account. Amy Jo Johnson played the Pink Ranger in the original TV series and two feature films.

The English actress got her start in the Disney Chanel's TV Movie Lemonade Mouth and in 2011 appeared in the short-lived Fox TV series Terra Nova. Scott most recently appeared in Ridley Scott's The Martian and can be see in the upcoming movie The 33, the true story of 33 Chilean miners who survived 69 days trapped underground.

Power Rangers creator, Haim Saban, will produce the film that follows the group of teenagers who must harness their unique superpowers and use those powers as a color-coordinated team in order to save the world. Lionsgate's Power Rangers movie is based on the '90s TV series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which first aired on Fox Kids using footage from the Japanese children's show.

Actors Begin Testing for Lionsgate's POWER RANGERS Reboot

With Dean Israelite set as its director and the latest script in to execs, Lionsgate has begun the search for who will become the new Power Rangers. Sources tell Variety the studio is about to begin testing young talent, looking at up-and-coming actors and actresses to make up the team.

Sources say Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (Chasing Life) and Brian "Sene" Marc are among those testing for Zack (aka the Black Ranger), while KJ Apa (Shortland Street), Austin Butler (The Shannara Chronicles) and Mitchell Hope (The Descendants) are testing for Jason (aka the Red Ranger).

Sources also say Naomi Scott (The Martian) and newcomer Stephanie Scott are up for the role of Kimberley (aka the Pink Ranger). TheWrap's Jeff Sneider adds that AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer) is also in contention to play Kim. Insiders say the studio is looking for fresh faces to fill out the team and will probably look for a big name to play the antagonist for the films, though no offers have been made for that part.

The story reimagines the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and unite to save the world, with the aid of giant mechanical vehicles known as Zords. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are penning the script, with Haim Saban, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur producing. Power Rangers is scheduled for January 13, 2017 release.

POWER RANGERS Character Names and Descriptions Revealed

The success of new Power Rangers movie will come down to the characters, the people behind the masks, behind the control of their Zords. Sources close to the movie have provided Collider with an exclusive early look at the names of the characters in Power Rangers and a great description of each of them. Fans of the original series will be quite pleased to know that the film is going back to the beginning and revisiting some old friends, albeit with much more fleshed out background stories.

Jason - 17 years old, the makings of someone or something great if he would just get out of his own way. Jason was a legend of this town - a freshman quarterback with the skills to take him all the way. People knew his name. Children wore his jersey. Until, one night Jason wrapped his car around a pole and busted out his knee. Everything Jason was going to become ended in an instant. And with it, he lost himself. When we meet him at the start of the film, he's a kid in need of redemption. By the end, he'll be leading this disparate group of teens to shed their individual baggage and find who they truly are.

Kimberly - 17 years old, unconventionally cool all in a way the popular girls wish they were. In fact, she was one of those girls, but isn't anymore. Not since she's returned to school after an absence of 6 months. Rumors are flying as to why; rumors she seems not to care about, because she's come back with this new rebel-without-a-cause, edgy attitude. But the truth is, it's all masking a deep secret that makes her feel profoundly vulnerable.

Trini - 17 years old, mysterious and extremely bright. Her parents constantly move for work, making Trini the perpetual new girl to any school. A loner who owns it, Trini is self-sufficient, contemplative, but always observant. All she wants is to find her gang of friends, but she'll never admit it - least of all to herself.

Billy - 17 years old, slight and awkward. Billy is challenged in his abilities to communicate and interact socially. Whip-smart and sweet, but always odd. Sometimes in a fun way, sometimes not, Billy is a kid with no filter. Showing his emotions, understanding sarcasm, and dealing with his OCD is a constant challenge. Has never really had any friends and instantly gravitates towards Jason.

Zack - 17 years old, always the life of the party. Filled with bravado and swagger, Zack's tough and cool on the exterior. A charming guy who's never had trouble with the one-liner, nor lacked confidence around women. A great athlete that's never wanted to play on any team but his own. Zack advertises everything about himself, except the truth, which is that he lives in a trailer park with his single mom, and because of it, feels deeply inferior to all his peers.

Lionsgate Pushes POWER RANGERS Release to January 2017

Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have announced that the Power Rangers reboot has been pushed from July 22, 2016 to a January 13, 2017 date. The Power Rangers film is being released via Lionsgate, but the January date is a far cry from a high-profile summer release. X-Men: First Class scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are working on the screenplay and it was recently learned that Project Almanac director Dean Israelite is in talks to take the helm, but he hasn't yet been confirmed.

Roberto Orci is onboard as executive producer, and this reboot is described as a "modern reinvention" of the property, which focuses on a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world. Even if Lionsgate had little confidence in the project itself, a January release date for a high-profile reboot is baffling.

Lionsgate announced a number of other changes to its release schedule on Thursday. It set Kristen Stewart's American Ultra for Aug. 21 and moved Criminal back to Jan. 22 from its previous berth on Aug. 21; shifted Gerard Butler's Gods of Egypt back to April 8 from Feb. 12; and set a July 15, 2016, date for the Ryan Gosling-Emma Stone musical La La Land, directed by Damien Chazelle.

Dean Israelite to Direct POWER RANGERS Movie for Lionsgate

Project Almanac director Dean Israelite is in talks to direct Lionsgate and Saban Film's Power Rangers movie. X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz wrote the script for the upcoming film about the team of teenagers who are infused with unique superpowers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world.

Power Rangers was a '90s TV series and global marketing franchise, initially called The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, that used footage from a Japanese children's show. It first aired on Fox Kids then in the 2000s on Disney-owned channels. A movie also hit theaters in 1995.

Haim Saban, who created the franchise, will produce Power Rangers with Saban Brands' head of development and production Brian Casentini. Also producing is Allison Shearmur, who oversaw The Hunger Games when she was Lionsgate's president of production and recently produced Disney's Cinderella. Israelite helmed 2014's sci-fi thriller Project Almanac about a group of teens who construct a time machine.

Gritty POWER RANGERS Short Film Starring Katee Sackhoff

Remember how Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers starred a cast of plucky "teenagers with attitude" pulled into a zany war with a space witch and an evil emperor with no skin? What if you took that core concept and transformed those same teens into costumed child soldiers dragged into a bloody intergalactic war they had no real part in? That's what producer Adi Shankar has done with his latest over-the-top short Power/Rangers, and, despite looking like a Michael Bay movie, it somehow manages to set a high bar for the upcoming Power Rangers film.

Power/Rangers stars Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff as former Pink Ranger Kimberly Hart and Dawson's Creek's James Van Der Beek as former Red Ranger you completely forgot Rocky DeSantos. Set in a dark future after the Machine Empire took over the planet, Rocky has since betrayed his former teammates to join forces with the machines. Filmed by "Blank Space" director Joseph Kahn, the 14-minute short shows what became of all the rangers in the years since the takeover, and their future is an extremely violent and tragic one, as even their incredible powers and Zords can't save them.

POWER RANGERS Star Ricardo Medina Jr. Arrested for Murder

Power Rangers actor Ricardo Medina Jr. was arrested for murder Saturday in Palmdale, Calif., The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The victim has been identified as Medina's roommate, 36-year-old Joshua Sutter. Sutter and Medina, also 36, were allegedly involved in an argument that turned physical, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff Department.

Police say that Medina entered his bedroom with his girlfriend and closed the door, and when Sutter forced his way into the room, Medina stabbed him once in the abdomen with a sword. Medina dialed 911 and later spoke to detectives at the scene. Medina has been booked for murder and is still being held in jail, with bail set at $1 million.

Medina played the Red Wild Force Ranger on Power Rangers Wild Force in 2002 and the villainous Deker on Power Rangers Samurai. He was a contestant on 2005's VH1 show Kept, in which he competed for the affections of Jerry Hall.

Roberto Orci Exits POWER RANGERS Due to STAR TREK 3

Star Trek and The Amazing Spider-Man co-writer Roberto Orci has dropped out of Lionsgate and Saban's upcoming Power Rangers film because his Star Trek 3 directing obligation has created a scheduling conflict, Deadline reports.

Orci, who will no longer serve as an executive producer on the film, had been expected to oversee the script by X-Men: First Class and Thor writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. He also recently stepped away from Sony's Spider-Man franchise after a break with his longtime writing partner Alex Kurtzman, who remains involved with The Amazing Spider-Man.

Lionsgate and Haim Saban still hope to release Power Rangers on July 22, 2016 in spite of the loss of Orci. Star Trek 3 is expected in theaters in 2016 in order to take advantage of the fiftieth anniversary of the franchise's launch.

POWER RANGERS Gets a Release Date and Official Synopsis

Lionsgate has set the Power Rangers movie release date for July 22, 2016, officially scheduling morphin' time for just over two years from now. The film doesn't yet have a director let alone a cast, but X-Men: First Class screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz were tasked with penning the script a month ago, and Roberto Orci (Star Trek) boarded the project as executive producer.

Story details are non-existent at this point, but Orci recently revealed that Power Rangers is not a "leave it behind reboot", adding that the film will exist in continuity with the TV series. The question then is, which TV series? Power Rangers began in 1993 on Fox and has aired a total of 20 seasons thus far, going through a number of different incarnations of the core Rangers.

Synopsis: From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor) comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.

POWER RANGERS Movie Will Exist in Continuity with TV Series

Executive producer Roberto Orci: "One of the first things we did was learn and read... They have 600 pages of research that they have on their stuff. We read through the synopsis of everything they did and we are actually taking into account quite a bit of the canon in a real way. We're not just a leave it behind reboot. It's got a continuity within the world. I can't tell you what, but it does have a continuity. [Haim] Saban cares very much about that. This is something that he created."

"I had to go to his house, personally, to tell him, "Listen, I'm your man. Miller and Stenz, these are your guys. I promise you I won't ruin your franchise." And he said, "It's very important to me, because kids around the world know what the Power Rangers are. So you can't just come in here and walk all over it. It better be consistent with what I've been doing." And I said, "Yes sir!""

When asked about the possibility of cameo appearance by the original cast members, Orci replied: "Of course. That's something we want to rely on the Saban group to tell us. They have a lot of internal knowledge of their franchise and we're just learning now. We've seen it only as fans, but they actually know it inside and out, so I'd love to know what fans want to see."

So, Lionsgate is seemingly partnering with Haim Saban to re-imagine Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The fact that they are rebooting it, as a feature film, is kind of blowing my mind. It's kind of amazing really.

Not to blast Power Rangers, but it's staying power for the past 20 years has been surprising. Now a new movie? Well, I guess we'll see.

Lionsgate jumping in on Power Rangers?

    Sign me up.

Show their origins, typical badass boss shows up, they lose, find his weakness, get the better of him, he grows, zords summoned, he still maintains the edge, they combine into megazord, they smash.

Every episode in a nutshell, but damn was it entertaining as a kid. Hope with Lionsgate backing, that they go big on this.
